Watching UConn vs Memphis on ESPN 2. Memphis quickness and length giving McNeeley fits. I haven’t seen him play much but he looks awful today.

UConn is missing Newton badly. Their current PGs aren't near his caliber.

Lol. Now of course they will win. Memphis was at 98% chance to win near the end of regulation.

Would of loved to see him in candy stripes one reason can't wait for Woody to be gone.
I mean zero chance we would have landed him if we were in the last 15 years before woody. Woody has got more players here than anytime in my life. They just need to hit this year. The “stars” from HS, and college awards the guys on our team have earned is insane.

Woody has the advantage of top-5 to 10 levels of money to pay players. Our previous coaches didn’t — we sure weren’t near the top of under the table cash payments.

Crean would have been pretty good in the NIL era. He landed some good recruits straight up without the NIL crutch.

We weren’t all clean.
Yea I said pretty clean. Our NCAA probation ended in 2011, which included all sorts of rules compliance training/reporting, and getting caught during or right after that would be some serious trouble with the NCAA + embarrassment.

The key takeaway is we weren't close to UK, KU, UNC, Duke, and the other bigger programs in terms of paying players. In the NIL era we are right there with them. It's a massive difference.

I'm just glad we self reported to the NCAA.

Really worked out well for us.

20 years later, Sampson is a perennial top 20 coach and what he did and what we self reported isn't even illegal anymore.

We don't have much to cheer about those 20 years, either. Turd City.

My pet peace argument ….. “not even illegal anymore”. Dumbest argument evrrr!!! It’s the ADVANTAGE you get because others can’t do it. It’s like saying two of are shots would be three pointers now so really won that game in 1985 based on the rules today. And Im not talking about IU. I don’t even know what Sampson did for sure. Just hate that ridiculous argument.

should not the punishment fit the crime? the death penalty over something, again, that was no longer illegal just a few years later?

we didn't cheat on grades, pay players, pay handlers, bribe AAU coaches, etc.

Those damn pet peace’s will get you every time.

It’s not a moral issue dude. For example…paying players. It’s not inherently wrong to pay for a person’s services. Our whole society is based on it. That doesn’t mean it was ok to pay players before NIL just because it’s ok now. It’s was still cheating because of the ADVANTAGE. And again, I’m not talking about IU. I have no idea if they were trested fairly. Just saying the fact that something is allowed now is irrelevant and a dumb argument. Louisville fans do that for losing their”title” for paying players. “Well, it’s legal now so to wasn’t cheating….” So dumb.

I'm never been for or against coaches that I believe to be jackasses but if I and Hurley were in a bar, and he did anything to annoy me, I would knock him out.

Self-reporting something trivial like excess texts/calls, which is the equivalent of going 1 mph over the speed limit, was not a good move.

We didn't get the death penalty, we lost just one scholly and had some other small and generally non-material penalties. The thing that really killed us was Sampson's out of control roster imploding and transferring, leaving us with a terrible APR (and more lost schollies) and almost no team left. Kelvin's recruiting pipeline went to zero too, we sure could have used the portal back then. Maybe Crean could have kept Crawford, who knows, but it was bad regardless.

Oh well that's behind us. McNeeley is annoying glad he lost.

He's a major league jackass.

I'm forever grateful that Hurley and UConn whipped Purdue last year, but it's about time he got T'ed up and had a game go like this. He's gotten way too full of himself and caught an awful lot of breaks the last couple years. Based on his comments in the post game press conference, some discipline might be coming his way.

And while it certainly didn't "have" to be called, it also wasn't an obviously bad call. The defender did have legal rebounding position, and McNeeley did make contact with him while going over him for the rebound. "Over the back" isn't an actual foul, but making contact and gaining an advantage with that contact, "over" someone in a legal rebounding position, is a foul. It can easily be argued he did that.

Long winded way of saying it was a call that could have gone either way. Hurley is a spaz. He'll do something soon to get himself cancelled/fired.

so that pot bust you had from the 90s....in a state where it's now completely legal.

still beating yourself up for it? should anybody?

Crean was a way better recruiter, Woodson is not even close, the portal has saved his ass, the zeller yogi og era teams would beat the shit out of this year's team.

McNeeley was a catch and shoot player on an all-time talented high school team. he is basically MM, Queen was the bigger loss
McNeeley is quite a lot more than just a catch and shoot player. MM is turning himself in to more as well. But McNeeley is already a better all around player 3 weeks in to his college career than MM as a sophomore. He was a very big loss. Much bigger than Queen, in my opinion.
