Maryland to fire coach, maybe as early as next week...

The biggest cheers will come from UConn. Edsall built UConn from a nothing program to a Jan. 1 bowl game against Oklahoma. But then he ditched the team after the game and did not even travel home with the team. Never met with his team to tell them he was leaving. And then they had to start looking for a coach and new recruits in January. Just shattered the program that he had built.

They deserve what they get for firing Friedgen. Seriously... dumbest move ever.

Like IU and Mallory
Completely disagree...I was in the stadium for virtually every game Coach Mal had. We're you? I ask because the venom against him for not firing OC GB poured out from the fans. The boo birds came in flocks. Once he went on record saying his friend was staying, Mal sealed his own fate. If you were there, it obviously was time for a change. Most would have been content with a new OC (aka Cam Cameron) but status quo was impossible..ever hear of "up the gut, up the gut, pass, punt"? That was our offense...period. Old school...but the game had changed and Mal didn't. Second guessing is a favorite sport at IU, just ahead of BB. Vbg

I was there from 82-87. I know his offense had gotten predictable and recruiting was as well. If IU had invested more into the football program, we may not have taken so long to finally climb back.

IU definitely didn't capitalize on the years 1986-94.
Our weight room was crap. Our coaches offices were modified janitor closets. Mellencamp came through, but that was it.

He may not be a good coach, but he seems to have IU's number, beating us 2X at Uconn and once at Maryland. Personally, I'm glad to see him go.
Turns out the rumors surrounding Edsall were accurate. Wonder if that is a bad sign for Wilson, as Edsall had a modestly better record during their shared Big Ten time (22-34 versus 18-36). Not sure I understand what Maryland is thinking here, especially after their strong play Saturday.

Also not sure that Mike Locksley is the guy to hand the keys to even on an interim basis, given his past coaching failure at New Mexico as well as this year's dreadful offense. Since they fired Edsall's main assistant, perhaps Locksley was the only guy left.

the Maryland ad said they want a guy who runs a wide open dynamic offense.

Kevin Plank is a Maryland graduate, University Trustee, significant benefactor to UM Athletics, and the founder and CEO of Under Armour. If Edsall was his guy, he isn't anymore.
