It's RHP Ben Grable on the mound with an ERA of 4.18 and a WHIP of 1.30 in 32.1 IP. He has 33 Ks to 12 BBs with an OBA of .262.

There's a shakeup at the top of the batting order with Moore leading off and then Taylor, Dickerson, Hanley, Malamazian, Cerny, Denny (DH), Koskie and Schuyler.

Maryland will have RHP Jake Yeager on the mound with an ERA of 6.67 and a WHIP of 1.62 in 29.2. He has 17 Ks to 19 BBs with an OBA of .257.

There's a light wind blowing out to the outfield.

T1st:

Grable got the first two batters, but an error at SS allowed a runner to reach with two outs. A flyout retired the side with no damage done because of the error.

B1st:

Moore led off and he doubled that was misplayed by the left fielder.

Taylor walked on a 3-1 count to put runners at 1st and 2nd and no outs.

Dickerson flied out with Moore and Taylor moving up a base to 2nd and 3rd and one out.

Moore scored on a WP with Taylor moving to 3rd and one out.

Hanley and Malamazian both Kd stranding Taylor at 3rd to end the inning.

End of 1st: IU 1 MD 0

T2nd:

The 2nd inning has been problematic for IU in the first two games with grand slams being hit in this inning in the first two games.

Grable faced the 5 thru 7 hitters and he Kd the leadoff batter. A single put a runner on which was the Terps first hit of the game.

Grable got back-to-back Ks to strike out the side around the single, and IU finally got out of the 2nd against the Terps with no runs scored.

B2nd:

It's the 6 thru 8 hitters up with Cerny leading off and he singled.

Denny walked on four pitches to put runners at 1st and 2nd and no outs.

A familiar story for IU of late, they get two runners on with no outs, and a DP ball by Koskie puts a runner at 2nd and two outs. Schuyler grounded out to end the inning and IU could do nothing with having two runners on and no outs in this inning. This is how you lose games.

End of 2nd: IU 1 MD 0

This past inning is what drives people to drink. Poor fundamentals. Should have had one more run if Hanley just makes contact. We've seen this movie way too many times. If the MD pitcher doesn't throw a wild pitch, they wouldn't have scored. SMH. Sheesh!

IU has done a lot of that this season with a runner on 3rd and one or no outs and IU would fail to put the ball in play by back-to-back batters.

T3rd:

Grable faced the 9 thru 2 hitters and he got the leadoff hitter on a pop-out. He then gave up a single to put a runner on and the Terps have had a runner on in each of the first three innings. We are in the meat of the Terps batting order which has killed us in this series.

Another pop-out and a groundout retire the side.

B3rd:

It's the top of the order up for IU with Moore leading off and he walked on a full count.

A throwing error by the pitcher sent Moore to 2B with no outs. Taylor walked on four pitches and they have two on and no outs again.

IU finally came through on a scoring opportunity with Dickerson hitting a single to score Moore to make it 2-0 IU and runners at 1st and 2nd and no outs.

The Terps went to the bullpen and brought in RHP Logan Hastings with an ERA of 6.17 and a WHIP of 1.60 in 35.0 IP. He has 27 Ks to 21 BBs and an OBA of .269.

Hanley flied out for the first out with Taylor taking 3rd and runners on the corners. With a runner at 3rd, can we finally make contact with the ball to drive him in. The answer is NO with a pop-out leaving Taylor at 3rd and two outs.

Cerny flied out and we have stranded two runners at 3rd in the game with just one out and by my elementary school math, that is two runs we could have had.

End of 3rd: IU 2 MD 0

Grable faced the middle of the order and he got the first two batters on flyouts to CF with Dickerson having to catch the second one up against the wall. A two-out solo homer made it 2-1 IU. Let's hope this isn't the start of another homer parade like yesterday's game. The first two outs of the inning were deep fly balls that stayed in the park.

A K retired the side, but this game should have been 4-1 instead of 2-1 given the scoring chances IU had with a runner at 3rd and less than two outs.

B4th:

It's the bottom of the order up with Denny leading off and he Kd. Koskie flied out, but Schuyler singled to put a runner on with two outs and the top of the order up.

Moore doubled to put runners on 2nd and 3rd and two outs and if Schuyler was a little faster he would have scored.

Taylor walked on a full count to load the bases with two outs. Another scoring opportunity was squandered as Dickerson Kd to end the inning. I can't help but feel that it's a matter of time before the Terps take the lead in this game.

End of 4th: IU 2 MD 1

LHP Ryan Rushing relieved Grable who had a good outing, and Rushing face the 8 thru 1 hitters. He walked the leadoff hitter on a full count. A flyout got the first out with the runner still at 1st.

Rushing then walked a batter on four pitches to put two on with one out with both runners walks.

A groundout got the 2nd out with both runners advancing to 2nd and 3rd. The Terps challenged the call on the out and lost the challenge.

Rushing got a K to retire the side with the two walks stranded on base.

B5th:

It's the middle of the order up with Hanley at the plate.

Hanley, who had been struggling at the plate of late, clubbed a solo homer to LF to give IU a 3-1 lead.

Malamazian singled to put a man on. Cerny lined out and Denny Kd for two outs. Koskie walked to put two on, but Stadler popped up to end the inning.

Rushing was back out there and faced the middle of the order and he got the leadoff hitter on a flyout.

Rushing then walked a batter on four pitches and that was it for him with Mercer going to the bullpen and bring in RHP Gavin Seebold. Seebold has an ERA of 8.61 and a WHIP of 1.73 in 38.2 IP. He has 28 Ks to 20 BBs and an OBA of .296. Seebold has been better coming out of the bullpen than as a starting pitcher.

He gave up a two-run homer to tie the game at 3-3. IU is 1 for 11 with runners in the scoring position and you just had to have the feeling that the Terps would eventually tie or take the lead in this game the way it's been flowing.

A groundout got the 2nd out. Another groundout retired the side.

B6th:

It's the top of the order up with Moore at the plate. As I pointed out in the above post, IU should be well ahead of the Terps right now but are 1 for 11 so far with runners in scoring position and that's how you lose games.

Moore got on with a leadoff infield hit. Taylor drove in Moore with a double to give IU the lead back at 4-3.

IU's bats have come finally come alive as Dickerson clubbed a two-run homer to LF to give IU a 6-3 lead and no outs.

The Terps went to the bullpen and brought in RHP James Gladden with an ERA of 21.60 and a WHIP of 2.40 in 1.2 IP and he had 1 K to 1 BB with an OBA of .375.

Hanley homered to LF to make it 7-3. Malamazian flied out for the first out.

Cerny homered to left center to make it 8-3 IU.

The Terps went to the bullpen again and brought in RHP Cristofer Cespedes with an ERA of 3.74 and a WHIP of 1.11 in 21.2 IP. He has 27 Ks to 11 BBs and an OBA of .171.

Denny doubled and Koskie walked to put two on, but Stadler hit into a DP to end the inning.

End of 6th: IU 8 MD 3

Seebold faced the top of the order and he gave up a leadoff single. A FC got the runner at 2nd for the first out with a runner at 1st.

A double put runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out.

A single scored two runs to make it 8-5 with a runner on 1st. A groundout sent the runner to 2nd with two outs.

A K retired the side as the Terps chipped away at the lead.

B7th:

It's the top of the order up with Moore leading off and he Kd.

Taylor singled with one out and he stole 2nd to put a runner in scoring position.

Dickerson singled to score Taylor to make it 9-5.

The Terps went to the bullpen and with one out, Hanley was hit by a pitch to put two on.

A WP sent runners to 2nd and 3rd with one out and Malamazian hit a SAC fly to bring in Dickerson to make it 10-5 IU. There was a runner on 2nd with two outs but Cerny grounded out to end the inning.

Seebold was back out there to face the bottom of the order and he got the first batter on a lineout. IU can't rest on that five run lead the way the Terps have hit the long ball in this series.

A full count walk put a runner on with one out. A single put runners at the corners with one out.

A groundout got the 2nd out with the runner holding at 3rd and a runner at 2nd. A good job of Seebold pitching out of the jam as he got another groundout to strand runners at 2nd and 3rd.

B8th:

It's the bottom of the order up with Denny leading off and he reached on a fielding error at 2B.

Koskie hit a ground rule double to put runners at 2nd and 3rd and no outs.

Stadler was hit by a pitch to load the bases and no outs with the top of the order up in Moore.

A four pitch walk to Moore drove in Denny to make it 11-5. The Terps brought in RHP Andrew Koshy and he promptly threw a WP to make it 12-5 IU. Taylor then hit a three-run home run to end the game on the run-rule.

Final: IU 15 MD 5

The bad taste that was left in IU's mouth after yesterday's game seemed to carry over to this game early on as IU continuously squandered scoring chances in the early innings and IU was at one point 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position. We twice had runners at 3B with less than two outs and couldn't drive in those two runs.

However, the bats woke up and we ended up outhitting the Terps 17-8. The first four batters in the order went a combined 11 for 16 and we had 10 extra base hits today to include five doubles and five homers. Putting Moore at the top of the order sure paid dividends in this game.

There were five multi-hit players.

Taylor - 3 for 3 with a double and three-run homer and 4 RBIs.

Dickerson - 3 for 5 with a homer and 4 RBIs.

Moore - 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI and he scored 4 runs.

Hanley - 2 for 4 with two homers and 2 RBIs.

Cerny - 2 for 5 with a homer and an RBI.

Denny and Koskie both had doubles, and Malamazian added an RBI.

The pitching was good enough to win this important game of the series and it was our first series win where we went into the day with the series tied at 1-1 and got the Sunday win. We used just three pitchers on the day and Grable was very good in his starting role today. Rushing had command problems in his short stint before giving away to Seebold.

Grable - 4.0 IP with 3 hits and an earned run on a solo homer. He had 4 Ks and no BBs and the rest of slate was clean.

Rushing - 1.1 IP with no hits and an earned run, 1 K and 3 BBs with a WP.

Seebold - 2.2 IP with 5 hits to include a double and homer and 3 earned runs. He had a K and 2 BBs.

IU had one error on the game which happened on the very first batter faced to start the game. The Terps had two errors.
