Obviously, winning cures all ills...even lack of judgement and character. If he is such a great coach, I wonder why he wasn't picked up last year by a Power 5 conference school when the coaching merry-go-round was in full motion? Perhaps they weren't ready to take a chance on someone who has a history of non-compliance and questionable recruiting.I'm not talking about cheating or giving players money. Him making phone calls was the least of my worries. But the characters he was bringing in and the complete lack of the regard they showed the university was a major turnoff. Sampson was at IU barely a year and a half and:
-recruited a player who was charged, tried, and convicted of felony cocaine trafficking WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
-recruited a player that later enrolled who was shot in the head as a senior in high school hanging out at a party at a gang affiliated house who a year prior was suspended for the remainder of his junior year of high school for punching out a referee mid game
And that's not even mentioning the rampant drug use and academic disregard of the players who were already on campus.
This may not matter to you and that is perfectly fine and within your right, but it was absolute embarrassment to me. I'm a proud alumnus of Indiana University before a proud Indiana basketball fan. I realize that everybody is different. But acting like Sampson was unfairly railroaded is a joke. He couldn't stay out of his own way and IU didn't deserve to go down with him.
I was there and it was the entire stadium. Everyone loved him until he was fired.Wow, even the cheerleaders joining in. lol
But Crean never broke any NCAA rules. Right…I was there and it was the entire stadium. Everyone loved him until he was fired.
Sampson = bad
Crean = supreme almighty leader

Again, I was being sarcastic. Of course Crean broke NCAA rules. The two you sited are just the two that made ESPN.What in the world was Tom Crean thinking?
If any program in the country should know that it pays to observe the NCAA rule book -- even when the rules are minor or procedural in nature -- it's Indiana.www.espn.com
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I’m sure you’re a morally perfect human. No mistakes ever.The total lack of concern about honesty and integrity among some of this board is disturbing. Again those strongly correlate with the Negative Nancy Whine Club. That’s interesting.
You certainly have no concern about your own dishonesty so your lack of concern for honesty and integrity in a head coach at IU is no surprise at all.Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I’m sure you’re a morally perfect human. No mistakes ever.
Get a grip man. The guy skirted antiquated rules on phone calls. Let’s not make him out to be a terrible human.
Love this moral position. The man is a serial cheater who did what he thought was necessary to win, rules or ethics be damned. Tell me, if he is so great, why is he still coaching at Houston? We'll see starting tomorrow but my guess is his past baggage and proclivity to repeat his mistakes.Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I’m sure you’re a morally perfect human. Why did they shoot so many?They played great D but 1-20 from 3. Yikes.
Back in the day there were plenty of rumors about Guy Lewis being shady at Houston. I can see why a culture of shadiness would bring in a guy like Calvin.Love this moral position. Phone calls were not the real issue. Academics and drugs were. Something you would understand if you ever attended IULet he who is without sin cast the first stone. I’m sure you’re a morally perfect human. No mistakes ever.

And missed five free throws. They played good enough to win but shot threes like IU does. That was gameThey played great D but 1-20 from 3. Yikes.
I was there too. It was mostly student section. People also didn’t know about all the problems with the players’ behavior at that time.I was there and it was the entire stadium. Everyone loved him until he was fired.

Not aware of the Guy Lewis rumors but UH felt it worth the risk to pick up someone coming off a show-clause. Evidently, they were comfortable with his history.
