Making Svarak. Goat, any recommendations?.........

Hmmm...

Only two:

1. Orange is better than lemon. Besides using orange peel in the wine, I was also taught that it was proper to serve with a slice of fresh orange and the drinker should squeeze the juice into the mug just before drinking.

2. Always use whole spices. Ground or powdered spices will make the drink gritty. An easy way to do this is to wrap them all in cheesecloth tied up with a string, much like a giant tea bag.

Sounds good, though. Maybe I'll pick up some cheap red and do the same tonight...

What the hells is grog?

My parents would go to a "Grog" party every winter at a friend's house. All I know is that its supposed to pack a mean punch (no pun intended) alcohol wise, but I don't know what is in it.

Here...

is a recipe, although there are many different ways to make it, but the basics are the same.

2 ounces dark rum
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
1 teaspoon brown sugar
4 ounces hot water
1 cinnamon stick
1 slice orange

It's great on a cold day and it goes straight to your head.
