Louisville Hospitals Are So Overwhelmed

Try this one:

Thanks. A great breakdown and does counter some info I heard today. Protection from death is the main (albeit a good one) reason I have been vaxxed and have been willing to recommend it to others.

More to come. We just walked out an employee who refused to wear a mask in the office. We don't require employees to wear a mask when they are at their desks, but if they walk to the breakroom, we require a mask. The employee sent a fairly insane email to her supervisor after a three-day suspension that included a variety of right-wing talking points regarding masks and other workplace issues. So, now she's without her job, but at least she doesn't have to wear a mask.
Are you all vaccinated?

Freedumb!

So if I am tracking this correctly. People who go to the hospital WITH covid, will be worried about being treated by someone who may be transmitting covid, of which I already have. I supose they go straight onto suicide watch when they find out that vax'ed and non vax'ed can both transmit covid, right?

There are still other patients in the hospital who don't have COVID.

Simple solution is to allow the vaccinated to ditch the masks and require the unvaccinated to wear them as a mark of shame.
The problem is you can still have the coronavirus even if you have been vaccinated. Maybe the unvaccinated should have to wear a Scarlett A like Hester Prynne?

If everyone is vaccinated then I'd take my chances. Nothing is going to be perfect.

Only five people were fired, and it doesn't say what jobs they held.

Not sure that is the relevant part, but OK. Let's use 5. Is it worth the press and the feinting couches? "Should" we be firing health care workers?

My point is we have been getting media reports about how Kentucky hospitals are overwhelmed and how Kentucky hospitals (and other employers) are going to require vaccinations or fire employees (despite HIPPA and union contracts and other relevant "typical" employment issues). If they are overwhelmed - and if masks/visors work - then why fire ANYbody? Some guy in the laundry can't hurt a patient, and neither can an unvaccinated haz-mat-wearing care giver.

Plus, according to media, 20% of Kentuckians say "won't get a vaccine" and 80% will. But according to the scientists, 70% is when you start to end a pandemic by seriously limiting the spreadability.

Does the 20% have a right to say no? What if 50% of the 15% African Americans in Louisville say "no"? What if a black, female EMT says no? Fire her?

AND .... the numbers from the daily Governor reports don't seem to really support that drastic (?) action - especially given the actual history Covid, masks, visors, distancing, and vaccines. And of course, the typical "help the working man" bullspit we hear from the vote whores.

For example, yesterday showed that Kentucky has 1,437 ICU beds. 667 have Covid cases - 770 have non-Covid cases - 137 are still empty.

Kentucky has 1941 vents - 448 have Covid cases - 411 have non-Covid - 1082 are still available.

I have always wondered whether, in a state of 4.5 million people, those are enough ICU's and vents, but nobody wants to talk about that - the politicization of Covid dominates. So for the moment, I'll assume Trump prevented Kentucky hospitals from adding ICU and vents.

From an HHS report on ICU/vents in the US: "Over the three years studied, total ICU occupancy ranged from 57.4% to 82.1% and the number of beds filled with mechanically ventilated patients ranged from 20.7% to 38.9%. There was no change in occupancy across years and no increase in occupancy during influenza seasons. Mean hourly occupancy across ICUs was 68.2% SD ± 21.3, and was substantially higher in ICUs with fewer beds (mean 75.8% (± 16.5) for 5–14 beds versus 60.9% (± 22.1) for 20+ beds, P = 0.001), and in academic hospitals (78.7% (± 15.9) versus 65.3% (± 21.3) for community not-for profit hospitals, P < 0.001). More than half (53.6%) of ICUs had 4+ beds available more than half the time. The mean percentage of ICU patients receiving mechanical ventilation in any given hour was 39.5% (± 15.2), and a mean of 29.0% (± 15.9) of ICU beds were filled with a patient on a ventilator."

So 68% was "normal" and 82% (without pandemic) was the high. Kentucky is at 90%, still within the standard deviation - and despite masks and visors working prior to vaccines, hospitals now want to fire folks.

I fear we have lost our collective minds and what we think is important is notably NOT important, the numbers say we should be looking at other issues.

No matter what I read, I can't see any reason NOT to say "mask mandates indoors are enough - vaccines are voluntary". From Fauci to the numbers - that is a/the "reasonable" conclusion.

Spot on. Enough with the media fear porn! Hospitals overwhelmed. 200 percent increase.

Give us actual numbers. Let us think for ourselves.

And yes expand care. Modify licensing borders. Virtual care. Separate cases. Whatever.

Yeah, but those are the other patients. The unmasked and unvaccinated think they are the only ones who have rights.
Unfair. They don't think they are the ONLY ones. But they fairly think they ALSO have rights.

Remember - masks work. If they fear the vaccine, why are they deemed crazy?

Why can't we all just get along?

So she sits at her desk for hours on end with no mask and that is a-okay but those milliseconds of her walking past someone without a mask are going to cause a spread of the virus?

I would say that she made out in the long run. Her company is being run by idiots.
“But officer the light was only red for a second!”

I’m sorry that rules have to have standards for you people even if the risk is very low.

You can't prove your point persuasively by just speculating "if" and then asking "why," like you're assuming everybody else will agree with you for just asking a question, Not a good technique. I doubt you've ever done that in your legal papers,

Masks work in part.
Distancing works in part.
Vaccine works in part.
Hand sanitizer works in part.

To fight this damn virus, we need as many parts working against it as possible,

No, the better analogy with what you used is that she should just blow on through the red light while slamming on the brakes when it is yellow.

Come on, explain how the "science" supports the dumb ass rule. You are at the office say 8 hours a day. You are free to not wear your mask for 7 hours and 15 minutes a day while you are at your desk. However, we need you to put it on when you go the breakroom. Because the 1.5 breaths you take while walking past each person, probably distanced (based on any set up of an office I have seen....main walkways are usually not as tight as work areas) is so much more problematic.

The point isn't science though. Just more signaling of the virtue. This allows each of you to stroke that little petty tyrant that resides in you.

Because evil Gestapo Joe can't wait to get his police force out ramping up his wars on american citizens. What war mongers he and his followers are. The US can ramp up war efforts in quick fashion but mobile versions of MASH units to treat COVID. Not so much.

Seems like those who get COVID get better immunity than what the Vaccine provide. Death rates seem quite low especially for those who choose to go that route and pretty almost non-existent unless you are old.

Go ahead and believe the evil propaganda machine with all their skewed stats such as Billy Ray who had cancer and 3 months to live got COVID and died one month early. He is now remembered as a COVID stat.

I see both sides of the debate/issue. My wife and I reluctantly got the J&J vaccine mainly at my urging; she was scared and didn't want to do it.

We have a 13 year old that is unvaccinated and are struggling with the decision at hand. She tells me all of the time that he could end up sterile; as you can imagine, it stops me cold in my tracks.

I honestly don't know what the hell to do. If the vaccines are failing in Isreal, then what the hell is the answer?? Are they safe for children???

She needs to get off Facebook. The sterility talk is nonsense.

Vaccines are not failing in Israel. They are loosing some of their effectiveness over time, which is not unexpected. Nevertheless, they are still providing excellent protection against severe illness.

I highly encourage you to encourage your 13-year old to get vaccinated. Our 12-year old got hers as soon as the authorization to do so came through and she has been very happy about it.

@Harry Hondo, I assume your laughing face is an admission that you got nothing in defense of that employers mask policy. That's IU_Hickory's "I surrender" go to move as well.

However, it isn't as lame as people who make new usernames to throw insults because they are too chickenshit to have stuff attached to their normal username. (Looking at you billyhilliu) Which is just a step above the comedic genius (DWS) who has created a dozen different names to use to "like" posts.

I just think it’s funny that you compare the enforcement of mask wearing to being a tyrant. Really, what cruel punishment is in play here? Are you people that soft?

There are 6,700,000 Indiana residents and 14,614 Indiana Covid deaths. That’s .0022

125 out of 36,000 is .0035

So you have a higher chance of losing your job as a health care worker for IU Health over Covid than you do of dying from Covid.

Now do Covid hospitalizations. Unless, of course, the only thing that counts is dying. Which is just like losing your job.

Have all 6 million had COVID? The denominator needs to be number of infections or I will say 125 people out of 6,700,000 Hoosiers lost their job over this.

The research that I found proves that you can not prove that they haven't. Thus, it's more likely in indiana to lose your IU med job due to Jab than die from covid.
Oh, have you been wormed yet? I hear it curb's your appetite.

All Hoosiers were eligible for Covid death. Only 36,000 were health care workers eligible to lose their jobs. Think of it as failures divided by opportunities to fail. 😉

Only people who have had COVID can die from COVID just as only people who work for IU Health can be fired from IU Health.

Couldnt find that number on the Indiana dot gov site.

You do terminations in all Indiana medical facilities/systems. There seems to be some dispute about proper numerators and denominators. @Marvin the Martian

Also please look up how many of the deaths were caused by exposure to an unvaccinated health care facility employee

we need accurate data even if after the fact

TIA

PS - when my mom was dying, alone in a hospital that was in the grips of Covid Derangement Syndrome, after being kicked out of another hospital in the grips of CDS for NOT having a positive Covid test after not testing her themselves in order to preserve their tests for the overwhelming Covid patients they expected to arrive at any moment because of media-fomented CDS, I don’t recall asking any of them about their vaccines. Know why? Masks work. Know how I know? Fauci the Brave said so. But times have changed and now masks will get you fired.

And PPS - where are the unions who claim to represent these folks? Hiding in a mask factory? Aren’t unions and Dems FOR for employees? Or just in election years?

And PPPS. - I got my shots, no help to my docs who answered every question with “don’t know, not enough data, sign this waiver and Hippo form”

Can you identify those that didn’t have a chance to die from it so you can tell them not to worry about getting the shot, wearing a mask, social distancing, etc? I hope I wasn’t one of them or its been a big waste for me…🙁

OH SNAP, this is a great comment. The unions have all switched to only care about those who make Masks. This could not be more accurate and POWERFUL, about today's union intent (cough teachers union cough). Leading sheep is really that simple, they are natural followers. (I'm a former union sheep, once reformed, BTW).

Should medical people have MMR vaccines, and the other vaccines we currently require? What is the difference?

A lot of colleges now require meningitis vaccine, is that wrong?

Does freedom mean medical workers should be allowed to come in with a cold, flu, hep c? Why should their right to be paid not exist because of hepatitis?

Where is this line that you see COVID so clearly on the other side? What percentage of fatalities would make you say, yep, that is dangerous enough.
