IU has outhit ULL, 7 to 2, and ULL already has 3 errors in the game. Matthew Ellis has a homer and Carter Mathison has a double and two RBIs at this point. Jack Perkins is on the mound and has given up two hits and one earned run through three innings, and has 4 Ks and one BB. The first seven batters in IU's batting order have all got at least one RBI.

In the 4th, Perkins walked the first two batters and then balked both runners to 2nd and 3rd with no outs. A ground out scored a run for ULL leaving a runner on 2nd with one out. It looked like Perkins was losing his control, but he was able to get out of the inning with another ground out and a K to end the inning giving up just one run.

It's a nasty day in Round Rock with a temp around 38 degrees and rainy. They hope they don't have any rain delays.

In the 5th, with one out, Doanes walked and stole 2nd. Glasser struck out for the 2nd out and Whalen grounded out to end the inning. Perkins is back on the mound for the 5th with 79 pitches.

It looked like Perkins was starting to lose some of his control in the 4th, but he came out in the 5th and struck out the first two batters. With two outs, he walked a batter before getting the final out on a ground out. Perkins is at 101 pitches right now, so he may not be on the mound in the 6th.

In the 6th, Morgan Colopy hit a two-out solo homer to increase IU's lead to 10-2. All three outs in this inning were Ks. IU pulled Perkins with 101 pitch count and brought in Ryan Kraft to pitch the 6th. Perkins gave up just two hits and two earned runs in five innings.

Kraft got ULL out in order in the 6th on two ground outs and a fly out. IU batting in the T7th.

IU opened the 7th with two strikeouts before Doanes walked and Glasser reached on an error to put runners at 1st and 2nd with two outs. Whalen then doubled down the left field line to score two unearned runs. Ellis then just got under a pitch sending the ball deep to the RF warning track for the third out. ULL up in the B7th.

Kraft gave up a leadoff double in the 7th, but then got a K for the first out. A single up the middle scored the man on 2nd. Kraft then hit a batter to put men on 1st and 2nd with one out. An error by Pyne at third loaded the bases with one out. A single scored another run with the bases still loaded and one out. IU got out of the inning with a double play ball where a little chopper in front of home plate resulted in a force out at home plate and a throw out at 1st base. IU is lucky the hit batter and the error cost them only one run and ULL got two runs in the inning. IU batting in the T8th up 12-4.

Braydon Tucker replaced Kraft to start the B8th and promptly walked the first batter he faced after having the count at 1-2. Runner advanced to 2nd on a ground out. Tucker gets the 2nd out on a K and then gets out of the inning on a fly out to CF. IU up in the T9th.

In IU's half of the 9th, Pyne walked, Jessee hit for Gorforth and flied out, Doanes struck out, and Glasser grounded out to end the inning.

Tucker gave up a single to start the 9th. He then got a K for the first out. A force out at 2nd got the 2nd out, and a ground out ended the game. IU finally gets that much needed first win of the season.

Perkins went five innings and pitched a great game for the win. Whalen and Tibbetts each had two hits in the game and Whalen had 3 RBIs. Ellis and Colopy both hit solo homers. We ended up with 9 hits and struck out 12 times.

Here is the game summary and a link to the box score. There were six errors in the game with ULL committing four of them, but it was a cold, damp day to be playing baseball and that may have contributed something to it.

I liked being able to listen to the game "Live" but I missed not having the "Live" Stats to go along with the Call. This game may just be what the Doctor Ordered. Good all around performances by all who played today! Would love to see K Fougerousse and E Vecrumba get going like I hope they will!
Also a big Thank You ptrich for giving updates and your positive perspective!
Go Hoosiers!

As much as I hate the RPI silliness, I’ll ask anyway: does this win help us or hurt us? And to be honest, I don’t much care at this point. Darned glad to have a W. Sorta takes me back to my basketball coaching days when we’d score early in the game and the head coach would lean over and say “welp, we’re not getting shut out tonight!” 😂
