People are leaving Illinois as it's political system and taxation structure is a black hole disaster. Chicago is a great city if money is of little concern. You can live in safe places that are walled off from the rot and keep playing the music.

While I agree with you 90% of the time, the weather doesn’t suck 9 months a year. The fall is awesome. Spring is hit and miss, but April-early Nov in general aren’t too bad. Not much worse than NYC. Boston gets more snow.
Lately our winters have been mild.
As much as I love Minneapolis, it has none of my childhood guilty pleasures that frikken Bedford has.
No Big Red pop (it pops up randomly once in a blue moon at Walmart or Cub)
No Long John Silvers (the only one is at the Mall of America food court).
No Pizza Hut/Pizza Express/Nobel Roman's breadsticks with cheese sauce (only red sauce)
No Steak n Shake (we have Freddy's which blows).
No chocolate icing doughnuts with creme filling. It's all custard filling which is like eating a doughnut dunked in banana pudding).
It's probably why I'm not 800 lbs but still, there are some things strip mall towns have that big cities don't.
No Bob and Tom either nor Stern (Howard was on in the late 90's for maybe a year but couldn't beat the local guys).

legalize drugs since their being illegal hasn't helped one bit, and is the main root of blacks' disliking the police.

take policing personal behavior all day every day off the table, and start policing crimes against others instead.
take away the financial incentive for gangs to exist, and the gangs largely go away as well.
this isn't rocket science, and it's not like we haven't been through this same problem before with alcohol prohibition.
problem is, the pubs have gone so far down this rabbit hole for so long now, that they see admitting the failure of it all as losing face and admitting being wrong, which they see as a far bigger problem than out of control gangs and violence, busting at the seams prisons, and the drug problem increasing 100 times over since day one of the war on it's own citizens for their personal behavior.
and like Trump saw covid as much less a problem once he found out blacks were dying in higher numbers than whites, pubs in general see fixing the total disaster that the drug war has inflicted on inner cities, and blacks in general with traffic stops as fishing expeditions, as not worth fixing since it's not so much in their back yard, and the fact that nothing brings pub votes from swing voters like inner city gang violence, which is almost 100% a direct result of the drug war..
if you're a pub running for office, inner city destruction and violence as a result of the war on drugs is seen as a huge political plus for you, not a negative.
