Looking for Mr Obvious in QB race

“I tell the defense they’re lucky I’m wearing a blue jersey. If I wasn’t wearing a blue jersey it would be a real rough practice for the defense”

Hammers home the point that it’s hard to evaluate DT QBs when no one can touch them.

I loved that quote...Penix sounds like the QB of our future...

I do really like the confidence and it truly is a valid point that may in the end prove to be the difference maker in determining the starter if they're equal after all is said and done. The pocket passer should come out looking the best because the towel gives them more confidence in the pocket and minimal impact to their game. Meanwhile, for the scrambler, it mitigates one of their best traits.

When I read what Dawkins said, I wish he'd be the game one starter. He could go down to FIU or wherever we're playing and probably rush for 150 yards and three TD.

Dawkins can probably lead this team to a 6-6 season just with his legs. Is Indiana at a point where they can pass that up by gambling on a much less explosive athlete in PR??

The main issue with Dawkins is potential accuracy issues. I have no idea how he will perform, but if he frequently shoots himself in the foot with bad throws, he will eliminates much, if not all, of his athleticism advantage.

To me, if Ramsey is starting, it is predominantly because Dawkins' couldn't get is arm under control

Agree with this they have already stated the importance of NOT turning the ball over on offense. If Dawk goes out and throws a few Lagow type int's I have to believe they will pull the plug quickly.

I am curious if Dawkins will come in a position to either throw to or to play the option. Imagine Ramsey and Dawkins in the game together and running the option. Smart QB play will take advantage of how the defense reacts. A tight end or the running back can get overlooked and hurt the defense with a big play out of that formation.

If Dawkins was even a B+ passer, he'd be a Heisman Candidate and he'd be somewhere else.

I'm hoping hes a C passer. Just give us 200 a game in the air.

I'm hoping we are able to work all three in against Florida International and then trim it to two for most of the rest of the way.

I'd like to see us get Penix a significant number of snaps in against "the"O$U over at there place, along with some snaps against MI up there, and most importantly, some time against pu in the The Bucket Game..., which as a package would really get his head straight when it comes to understanding what he'll be dealing with as a starter, or co-starter in 2019...

Will the game situations allow that (in my mind) perfect scenario? Probably not..., but lets hope we're up by 70 against O$U, MI & pu so he can see some serious trigger time...

Edit: An even better scenario (in my mind) would switch out playing time vs MI for significant snaps in our Bowl game preferably played somewhere in Florida where his friends & family can watch him (Live), along with our FL recruits...

I don’t think Butch Davis took the job at FIU to be a doormat. I won’t count this game as a sure thing.

Truthfully, I don't see any sure things on our schedule...

Fl Int is coming off a Bowl, BSU literally played every guy on their roster last year due to injuries so they have experienced depth (and see us as their Bucket game), and Virginia has talent no matter how their coach wants to spin it...

We still need to not only learn to win consistently but also learn how to not relax with a lead..., how to figuratively crush the will of the opponent... We're a ways away from that...

I saw BSU play in person last year before their injuries. They were horrible. If that's not a sure thing we're going to have a long season.

I thought they looked pretty good before they got banged up. The QB and WR played together in high school and were making plenty of plays in the Illinois game and could have beat them. I was impressed.

Well we've approached BSU as a sure thing several times in the recent past (under Wilson) and that attitude didn't work too well for us...

In my opinion, any team we take lightly this fall will be a team we'll lose to.

You are easily impressed.

I saw them play a godawful 1-11 Tenn. Tech team at home. They won the game, but did not dominate. I agree the QB, Neal, was pretty good. The little WR was pretty good as well, but no Timian or Whop imo I didn't see anyone else that looked like they could start on a .500 BT team.

I would like to see all 3 play as the situation allows. But, you know someone will throw a long touchdown pass on a blown coverage and fans will be screaming for him to start the next week. The reality might be he made some bad reads, or ran plays incorrectly.

We have debate over 2 QBs now. Be ready for more of that with 3.:)

Did you see the Illinois game? They moved the ball with ease pretty much all day and did not give up much to Illinois who struggled. Again they should have won that game.

The more I read and consider our QB situation, the more optimistic I become. We don't have the best QB in the conference but, from a depth perspective, we are in really good shape. Several Big Ten teams, even some of the blue bloods (e.g. Michigan State and Penn State), are an injury away from QB disaster. I like all three of our guys and believe we can win with any of them.

Addendum: Regarding Penn State, they've got a skilled backup to McSorley in Tommy Stevens, but Stevens evidently has had a recurring foot injury and is currently in a walking boot.
