Heading into T2 --> The game is tied 0-0.

Due Up:

4. Roskam
5. Anderson
6. Foster

It looks like we had better find some offense and fast. Sommer basically got destroyed in the 2nd and both of his walks also ended up scoring. If we end up with another lackluster game at the plate, it's going to be a long night.

T2:

Roskam drew a leadoff walk and moved to second after Anderson hit a ground ball to third and beat the throw at first. Foster then struck out looking for the first out. However, Banjoff walked, which loaded up the bases. Matthews then hit a bases-clearing double down the left-field line and three scored to give Nebraska a 3-0 lead. Next up to bat, Everitt also doubled down the left-field line and Matthews scored to extend the lead to 4-0.

Acker grounded out to shortstop for the second out and Everitt moved to third. Hallmark then struck out swinging for the final out.

Heading into T2 --> Nebraska leads 4-0.

Due Up:

4. Barr
5. Richardson
6. Colopy

Well, it's a good sign to see us get the bats going in the 2nd, and it was against their ace pitcher. We just need Sommer to settle down and pitch like we know he can. A real surprise is they put Houston in the leadoff position and he already has two hits - will wonders never cease.

B2:

Barr led off and struck out swinging. Richardson then drove a ball over the left center field wall for a solo home run, cutting the deficit to 4-1.

Colopy then singled to left and moved to second after a pitch hit Fougerousse. Hopkins then popped out to the shortstop for the second out. However, Espalin singled up the middle and Colopy scored to make it 4-2.

Houston then singled to right field, advanced to second base on the throw to third. Fougerousse scored to make it 4-3 and Espalin went to third.
However, Ashley struck out swinging for the final out.

Heading into T3 --> Nebraska leads 4-3.

Due Up:

3. Schwellenbach
4. Roskam
5. Anderson

Well, Sommer is not long for this game and we are probably going to have to go to the bullpen much too early in this game. His ERA has been creeping upward going into this game and he hasn't done himself any favors in this game in that regard.

Over 2.1 IP, Sommer gave up a homer and two doubles in the four hits he gave up and he walked three. He did get 5 Ks which is about the only plus. All six runs were earned.

T3:

A pitch hit Schwellenbach on a 3-2 count, but it was ruled a backward strikeout since the ball was in the strike zone. Roskam then walked and Anderson hit a two-run home run to left-center to extend the lead to 6-3.

RHP Braydon Tucker replaced LHP Tommy Sommer

Foster and Banjoff struck out swinging for the second and third out.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Heading into B3 --> Nebraska leads 6-3.

Due Up:

3. Toetz
4. Barr
5. Richardson

All three walks by Sommer have scored tonight which is the difference in the game right now.

B3:

Indiana strands one runner in scoring position.

Toetz led off and singled through the right side. Barr then flew out to right field and Richardson grounded out to first base unassisted. Toetz moved to second. Colopy then grounded out to third base for the final out.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Heading into T4 --> Nebraska leads 6-3.

Due Up:

8. Matthews
9. Everitt
1. Acker

T4:

Matthews singled to center field and Everitt was out on batters interference when Matthews attempted to steal second. Regardless, Matthews went to second on a failed pickoff attempt. Acker then doubled to right field and Matthews scored to extend the lead to 7-3.

Hallmark flied out to right field and Acker tagged up, moving to third. Schwellenbach walked to put runners on first and third with two outs. Roskam hit a ground ball to Fougerousse, who made a diving stop and touched first for the final out.

Heading into B4 --> Nebraska leads 7-3.

Due Up:

7. Fougerousse
8. Hopkins
9. Espalin

It's kind of a shocker to see Houston with three hits in three at-bats, while getting two RBIs. Two errors in the game, and it seems we can't get through 9 innings of a game without having at least one.

B4:

Fougerousee grounded out to first base and then Hopkins doubled down the left-field line. He then moved to third on a ground out by Espalin and later scored once Houston singled through the left side. Ashley then fouled out to left field for the final out.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Heading into T5 --> Nebraska leads 7-4.

Due Up:

5. Anderson
6. Foster
7. Banjott

Agreed on Houston but he was just charged with an error. Quite the flip from his historical

T5:

RHP Grant Macciocchi replaced RHP Braydon Tucker

Anderson hit a line drive towards shortstop, but Houston failed to make the catch and was charged with the error. Foster then hit a ground ball up the middle to Houston, who flipped to second base for the out. Foster was safe at first. Banjoff and Matthews both struck out swinging for the second and third out.

Heading into B5 --> Nebraska leads 7-4.

Due Up:

3. Toetz
4. Barr
5. Richardson

There's still plenty of time to get back into this game, but it won't be easy. Nebraska is a veteran team that leads the B1G in hitting and even one of their freshmen in Matthews is tearing the cover off the ball and is leading them in hitting.

B5:

RHP Koty Frank replaced LHP Cade Povich

Indiana is retired 1-2-3.

Toetz struck out looking, Barr grounded out to the pitcher and Richardson struck out swinging.

With MD winning tonight, which is their sixth straight win, if we lose, we drop to 4th place while MD pulls into a tie for 2nd with Mich. Here's hoping we can pull this one out.

Everitt struck out swinging and Acker grounded out to shortstop. Hallmark walked. However, Schwellenbach grounded out to third base.

Heading into B6 --> Nebraska leads 7-4.

Heading into T7 --> Nebraska leads 7-4.

Due Up:

4. Roskam
5. Anderson
6. Foster

This is enough to want to pull your hair out. We have men on 1st and 3rd with no outs and we come up empty. We have outhit them 10 to 7, but they have made the most of it, not to mention having their first three walks cross the plate which is the differnce in the game right now. Geesh!

3. Toetz

B9:

Indiana is retired in order.

Houston grounded out to shortstop, Ashley struck out swinging and Toetz lined out to shortstop.

IU loses the series opener 8-5.

Not a fluke. Nebraska is just plain a better team. I wonder what they have done to build the current program, which has been a consistent winner in the 21st century?

We just couldn't overcome the six runs given up by Sommer in the first 2.1 innings he was on the mound and the three walks he gave up all ended up scoring. We gave up just two runs the rest of the way, but we missed on too many scoring opportunities, and that was magnified by having runners on the corners in the 6th with no outs and coming up empty. If I'm not mistaken, we dropped down to 4th place with MD and Mich tied for 2nd place. We are also not that far out from 5th place with Iowa behind us by 1.5 games I believe. We absolutely need a really good game by Brown tomorrow.

Can't leave a guy whose control is so bad in so long to give up so many runs so early. Especially considering the standings. That was frustrating.
