Nice to see more Iowa fans sitting behind home plate than IU fans. NOT. Thanks Monroe County and IU.

It's not Monroe County. Bloom. South just played Bloom. North in high school baseball, and they allowed 150 fans to attend that game.

B1: Mid-Inning Update

Ashley hit a leadoff double to left-center and moved to third after Toetz doubled to right-center field. There was some controversy about if Iowa RF Zeb Adreon held on to the ball when diving, but it was ruled a double. Indiana took advantage as next up to bat Richardson singled through the left side and Ashley and Toetz scored to give Indiana a 2-0 lead. Barr walked to put runners on first and second and Colopy singled to left to load up the bases. A pitch then hit Van Pelt to score another run to extend the lead to 3-0.

RHP Jacob Henderson replaced RHP Drew Irvine

B1:

Fougerousse hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Barr scored to make it a 4-0 game. Hopkins then doubled down the right-field line and Colopy scored to extend the lead to 5-0, but Van Pelt was thrown out trying to score. Espalin grounded out to first base unassisted to end the inning.

Okay, Brown just walked the #9 hitter to load the bases with two outs, and now he has to face Iowa's most dangerous hitter in Norman.

T2:

Iowa scores three runs to cut Indiana's lead to 5-3.

Nedved struck out swinging and then Sosa singled to right field. McCleary went down looking for the second out of the inning and then Wallace and Sher walked to load up the bases. Leadoff hitter Norman also walked and Sosa scored from third to cut the deficit to 5-1. Fullard then singled to left field and Wallace scored from third to make it 5-2. All runners safely advanced one base to keep the bases loaded.

Martin drew a walk and Sher scored from third to cut the lead to 5-3. That was the fourth walk of the inning for Brown. Adreon struck out swinging to end the frame.

Unbelievable. Four walks in the inning to include the #8 and #9 hitters in the lineup. We should have been out of that inning with no runs scored. Here's hoping our bats continue to be hot since Brown is off to a shaky start.

B2: Mid-Inning Update

Ashley drew a leadoff walk and moved to second after Toetz singled to the pitcher. Toetz hit a ground ball up the middle that went off Iowa pitcher Henderson's hand. It rolled to the shortstop, but Toetz beat the throw. Next up to bat, Richardson singled to first base. The ground ball went off Fullard's glove and rolled towards Iowa 2B Nedved, who threw to first, but Richardson beat the throw to load up the bases.

Barr then hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Ashley scored to extend the lead to 6-3. Toetz moved to third on the flyout and Richardson then stole second to put runners on second and third. Colopy fouled out to Iowa 1B Izaya Fullard for the second out of the inning

Well, we got those three gift runs back; here's hoping Brown finds his control again.

Brown is not long for this game. In addition to control problems, he is not fooling the hitters much either.

I just don’t understand the sloppy play in such a big series. Kicking balls around in the outfield allowing a runner to advance then score. Picked off first. Infielders bobbling thrown balls from the outfield. This team just doesn’t look like a tournament team to me.

Yes, they look shaky again today. I pointed out yesterday that we are going against a veteran team that is dominated by upperclassmen. Their position lineup today consists of 8 juniors and seniors and the maturity they have on the field is a big plus for Iowa. I was hoping our pitching staff would be able to hold them down in this series, but it hasn't happened so far. The bottom four hitters for Iowa have hurt us to today. So far, they are 5 of 10 at the plate with two walks on top of that. We have yet to have a 1-2-3 innings so far, so I hope one of our bullpen pitchers can find some way to hold them down.

Will wonders never cease. Espalin, who is not even hitting half of his weight, just got a RBI single after Iowa made a pitching change. This looks like it may be one of those 17-15 games by time it's over with.

Big win. Everyone in the lineup got at least one hit, with Toetz leading the way going 3 for 5. Four players had two RBIs each on the game. It was a forgettable game for McCade Brown who had control problems and wasn't fooling many batters. He missed a game in the rotation and I wonder if the inactivity affected him today. Michigan lost their first game today against Illinois, but they are well ahead of them in the 2nd game, so they are probably looking at a split. Neb has an early lead of 1-0 in the 2nd on Rutgers.

For the 2nd day in a row, Rutgers has come from several runs down late in games to beat Neb. Today, they scored 5 runs over the last three innings to win 6-5. The Rutgers win today pulls us even with Neb in the loss column, but they are ahead of us by one game in the win column. Michigan split their double-header with Illinois today, and if I'm not mistaken, we move back into 2nd place over them by percentage points. We are one game up on Michigan in the loss column, but one game behind them in the win column. We need to win tomorrow, and Bierman has been our most consistent pitcher of late. You might even call him our #1 pitcher right now even though he's the day 3 pitcher.
