Here we go again. Brown starts the 4th with a walk and then strikes out the next batter. It's only a matter of time before the walks start costing us, and we have been fortunate so far, since the Ks usually don't advance a runner.

T4:

Sarver drew a leadoff walk and then the Illini went down in order. Campbell struck out swinging, Harding popped out to third base and Jackson fouled out to Hopkins behind the plate.

Fougerousse then hit a single to left field and advanced to second base on the throw home. Barr and Toetz scored to make it a 2-0 game. Colopy then hit an out-of-park two-run home run to left field to extend the lead to 4-0.

The Colopy home run was a projected 451 feet. WOW

It's good to finally see some offense. The Illini pitcher came into the game with an ERA of close to 6.00 and he must have looked like Bob Gibson to us until the 4th.

Brown was at 101 pitches through 5 IP so it was expected they would go to the bullpen. Those walks really added to the pitch count even though he didn't give up a hit.

B6:

Indiana takes a 6-0 lead.

Richardson drew a leadoff walk but was thrown out trying to move to second base after Toetz hit a ground ball to first base. However, Toetz reached base as he beat the throw coming back to first base on the attempted double play. Fougerousse then singled to shortstop to put runners on first and second.

Illinois pitcher Kirschsieper stumbled on the mound and then threw a pitch well in front of the plate. Toetz and Fougerousse took advantage and both stole a base. Toetz was lucky at third because he overslid, but Illinois 3B Raper threw to second to try to get Fougerousse out. Colopy then hit a two-RBI single to right field to extend the lead to 6-0.

Indiana takes a 8-0 lead.

Espalin had a great at-bat and drew a leadoff walk. Hopkins then bunted the ball into the air and the pitcher dropped it, then committed a throwing error trying to start the double play at second base. The ball rolled into the outfield, allowing Espalin to advance to third. Since Comia was in the outfield when he retrieved the ball, Espalin took advantage of his positioning and ran home to score. Meanwhile, Hopkins moved on the throwing error to second base by the pitcher.

Ashley flew out to center field and Hopkins tagged up, moving to third. Richardson then singled to left field and Hopkins scored.
