Hall of Famer
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University men's soccer senior Grant Lillard was named to the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List on Tuesday the United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) and the Missouri Athletic Club announced.

Lillard was also named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List last season. In the storied history of Indiana men's soccer, an IU player has been named the national player of the year 11 times. Included on that list are both IU head coach Todd Yeagley and associate head coach Brian Maisonneuve.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year. This year's winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

In 2016, Lillard earned Second-Team All-America honors from both College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer, as well as First-Team All-Big Ten and First-Team All-Region accolades. Lillard started all 18 matches in which he appeared for the Hoosiers, helping the IU defense record a goals-against average of 0.70 and post a Big Ten-best 11 shutouts on the year.

"Grant is among the elite in college soccer," head coach Todd Yeagley remarked. "Over his last three years he has continued to develop in all aspects of the game. Grant is on track to be one of our all-time best central defenders here at IU. We anticipate a great senior year for Grant and he very worthy of this preseason honor."

The Hinsdale, Ill. native was also a standout in the classroom in 2016, earning Second-Team Scholar All-America, First-Team Scholar All-Region and Academic All-Big Ten honors.

The MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists are compiled by members of the United Soccer Coaches Men's and Women's NCAA Division I All-America Committees. Fifteen semifinalists will be named for both the men's and women's MAC Hermann Trophy near the end of the college season based on voting by NCAA Division I coaches and from those candidates, three finalists will ultimately be placed on the ballot for the coveted award.
