I wanted to look at what the data was saying vs. The eye test for these 4 games. We all thought this team would improve on these numbers, so let's see what the small set of data has told us.

It all starts with the baseline of Team/individual stats from last season.
Team turnovers per game: 11.5
Rebounds per game: 36
Blocked shots per game: 3.2
Steals per game: 5.0
Team assists per game: 13.9
Rebound margin per game: +3
Free throw attempts per game: 19
Free throws made per game/%: 72%
Team 2pt FG% per game: 46%
Team 3pt attempts per game: 22
Team 3pt shots made/%: 9.4/41%

Creighton: +/- for game), (+/- vs.Last season)- reaction vs. Last season
Turnovers: 18(+3), (+7) - huge concern
Rebounds: 46 (+13), (+10) - positive
Blocks: 5 (+0), (+1.8) - positive
Steals: 6(+1), (+1) - positive
Assists: 18(+8), (+4) - positive
Free throw attempts: 9(-7), (-10) - concern
Free throw %: 66.7(+17%), (-5%) - concern
2FG %: 50(+5%), (+4%) - positive
3 pt. Attempts: 28(+10), (+6) - neutral/negative
3 pt.%: 36(+19%), (-5%) - negative
***IU appears to have won this game on the rebounding advantage, free throw attempts shot/made and superior 3 point shooting. IU just a better team.

Wake Forest:
Turnovers: 14(+3), (-2.5) - concern
Rebounds: 32(-17), (+1) - huge concern in this game
Blocks: 6( 5), (+2.8) - positive
Steals: 9(+3),(+4) - positive
Assists: 17(+11), (+3.1) - positive
Free throw attempts: 22(+10),(+3) - positive
Free throw %: 72.7%(+22.7%), (+0)- big positive for this game
2FG.%: 43.3%(-7.4%), (-3%) - negative
3 pts attempts: 29(+15), (+7) - neutral/negative
3 pt.%: 34.5(-8%), (-5.5) - negative
***this is quite simple. If they give a better effort in rebounding and 50/50 balls and shoot a touch better, they win this game. No offensive patience and rushed shots. Very bad loss.

St. John's:
Turnovers: 16(+5), (-4.5) - concern
Rebounds: 38(+1), (+2) - neutral/positive
Blocks: 3(+0), (-.02) - neutral
Steals: 7(+0), (+1) - neutral
Assists: 19(+8), (+5.1) - positive
Free throw attempts: 24(-3), (+5) - neutral/positive
Free throw %: 62.5(-4.2), (-10%) - concern
2FG%: 57.7(+14%), (+11%) - positive
3PT attempts: 19(+1), (-3) - neutral
3PT%: 42.1%(+2), (-1%) - neutral
***IU was again the more talented and deeper team, but were not able to bury them. The turnover bug was again too high, which led to empty possessions and missing freebies at the line would have extended the score with ease.....why in the world did Yogi change the entire mechanics of his free throw shooting. Yes, it was previously a line drive shot, but it worked great. Now, he just does not look comfortable. Who in the hell suggested he change?

UNLV:
Turnovers: 18(+6), (+6.5) - huge concern
Rebounds: 35(+4), (-1) - neutral/positive
Blocks: 4(-1),(+.08) - neutral
Steals: 7(-2),(+2) - concern/neutral
Assists: 17(+1), (+3) - neutral
Free throw attempts: 19(-1), (+0)- neutral
Free throw percentage: 52.6%(-2.5%), (-20%) - huge concern
2FG%: 46.2%(+2%), (+0) - neutral/concern
3 PT attempts: 20(+1), (-2) - neutral
3 pt%: 55%(+19%), (+14%) - positive
***Turnovers on 29% of their possessions plus missing half of their free throws. With how they shot the 3 ball, they still could have won this game. They played too tentatively, didn't feed the post, the wrong players took shots at crucial times and they had trouble handling their athleticism and defensive pressure.
