Here is this season through February 10th compared to the last 20 seasons through February 10th.

It seems to me, if you exclude the two prime Zeller/Oladipo/Crean years (2011-2012 and 2012-2013) and the two Sampson cheating years (2006-2007 and 2007-2008) this team has the third best winning percentage of the remaining teams in the last 20 years. I did quick math so I might be wrong. Feel free to correct me accordingly. Also, I was too lazy to look up Big 10 records before 2002-2003.

My question is, given unlimited resources, who would you like to see at the helm (other than Sampson, who is clearly superior in terms of winning percentage at Indiana to Crean, Davis and Knight in the last 20 years) that would turn the tide (if in fact you believe the tide is ebbing)?

Crean
2014-2015 17-7 (7-4)
2013-2014 14-9 (4-6)
2012-2013 21-3 (9-2)
2011-2012 19-6 (7-6)
2010-2011 12-13 (3-9)
2009-2010 9-14 (3-9)
2008-2009 6-17 (1-10)

Sampson
2007-2008 20-3 (9-1)
2006-2007 17-6 (7-3)

Davis
2005-2006 13-7 (5-4)
2004-2005 10-10 (5-4)
2003-2004 11-9 (5-4)
2002-2003 14-8 (5-5)
2001-2002 16-7
2000-2001 14-9

Knight
1999-2000 17-4
1998-1999 18-8
1997-1998 16-7
1996-1997 18-7
1995-1996 14-8
1994-1995 13-9

I wouldn't ignore those years

What it reminds me is that if Samscum hadn't had his violations, our future success on the court would have been pretty bright. Especially interesting would have been that last year with Gordon. We don't know how the off court issues would have affected the team.

You have to remember, several of the players that left went on to have good careers at other schools.

What is interesting is the year we advanced to the championship game, we were 16-7 at this point. Regardless of the sport, with the right talent and teamwork, any team can get hot and make a championship run.

Knight's 99-00 team was 17-4 rather than the 14-9 shown...

in your list. It's the only one I checked because I knew immediately that it was wrong.

Unethical and

didn't give a rip about what his players were doing off the court or in the classroom.

This is also one if the weakest B1G conferences in those 20 years.

The record is nice this year but most years the B1G has multiple teams in the to 10 and 5-6 in the to 25 throughout the season.

Also would want to factor in non conference strength of schedule.

It's Indiana's second hardest non-con schedule in the last five years...

not that that says a whole lot.

14/15 138
13/14 215
12/13 54
11/12 146
10/11 258

20 years? Wow.. care to share your list you compiled?

You're not one of the guys who goes around recording temperatures

to 'prove' humans cause global warming, are your?

This is the most important point of all....

There were some 'players' who would have never been considered at IU, for reason other than sports, if Sampson were not the coach. However, smoking the gange has gone on for quite some time, under more than one coaching staff.

Re: I wouldn't ignore those years

The 80-81 IU team is a case in point. They were 14-8 on Feb. 10. Then, Landon Turner finally began to play the way Knight expected him to. Turner started against Minnesota on Feb. 21; the team won every game from that point on and took the banner. The average margin of victory in the tourney was over 22 points. Unfortunately, we don't have an Isiah Thomas or Landon Turner this year.

Supposedly that team had a GPA over 3 in the first semester.

When Sampson was fired and Dakich hired there was a mutany and everything went to hell.

Don't get me wrong, I hope we don't see another Deandre Thomas again (even though last year a couple of our 'guys' would have loved to hang out with Deandre) but it wasn't as nearly as bad as you and Crean like to spin it.

Rumor is Hollowell flunked out last year also when he knew he was gone and quit.

The drug use was much more troubling to me than the F's.

Here is a list ........

This shows IU's record vs teams that ultimately received a top 4 seeding in the NCAA Tourney. For example, the 1989 Big Ten Champion Hoosiers played 11 games vs top 4 seeded teams going 4-7 in those games. Using Lunardi's Bracketology to project for this sesaon, IU will only play 2 games vs top 4 seeded teams this season with an 0-2 record. Also (for the Sampson fans) notice that during Sampson's two seasons combined IU only played 7 games vs top 4 seeded teams making it the 2nd weakest two year schedule since since 1984.

84-85 1-5 (6)
85-86 3-4 (7)
86-87 3-3 (6)
87-88 2-5 (7)
88-89 4-7 (11)
89-90 1-5 (6)
90-91 0-3 (3)
91-92 3-2 (5)
92-93 6-1 (7)
93-94 3-3 (6)
94-95 3-4 (7)
95-96 0-5 (5)
96-97 1-3 (4)
97-98 2-3 (5)
98-99 1-4 (5)
99-00 2-3 (5)
00-01 1-3 (4)
01-02 2-3 (5)
02-03 1-3 (4)
03-04 0-2 (2)
04-05 0-4 (5)
05-06 2-5 (7)
06-07 2-1 (3)
07-08 0-4 (4)
11-12 4-4 (8)
12-13 6-1 (7)
13-14 2-5 (7)
14-15 0-2 (2)

This is absolutely not true

I rarely post here anymore because of nonsense like this, but please get your facts straight.

As an example, in 2004, the Big Ten sent 3 teams to the NCAA tournament and it was rated 7th of all conferences that year. This year B1G conference is rated 3rd and will send 6 teams to the NCAAs.

There are at least 4 if not 5 other years in the last 20 that the conference is worse than this year. It is absolutely true the conference is down this year vs other years, but IU has done fairly well in a year that many of you said we wouldn't even go to the NIT. Now that the team is performing way above your expectations, people are slamming them because they didn't fulfill your doomed scenarios.
