Kyle Guy..

He said in an interview after his first visit to Virginia that he was sold on it and didn’t want to go anywhere else.

Lie it was Crean that he didn’t go to IU......
The interview I read was with Guy. He didn’t mention anything about IU or Crean, as I wouldnt expect him to, but doesn’t mean he might not have considered IU. Guy said, “I went to UV, fell in love with it, and signed up”, simple as that.

Because Tom Crean was the coach here. He's not even taking visits to fkn UVA if that goober isn't at IU.
Crean as the boogey man, again? That’s this board’s answer for everything wrong with their lives. How’s it going with Romeo this year? He wouldn’t have been here w Crean. OK, Crean’s gone and Romeo is here. As Zep says, ‘The song remains the same’.

The song reminds me of a group of little kids singing off course and screaming at the top of their lungs acting like it is actually music too. They are clueless at what the program is going thru but still scream and whine like petulant children not getting their way. And yes TC is the gift that keeps on giving. Hopefully this will be his last gift and CAM will have better options going forward.

“Indiana was the complete opposite,” he said. “I loved IU and I liked coach (Tom) Crean. We just didn’t connect like coach Bennett and I did. It was nothing against him, it was just the way I was programmed.”
  • Guy had been to enough Indiana games as a kid to create Hoosier dreams.
  1. His great-uncle was on the board of trustees at IU. His great-grandfather, once the commissioner of the Indiana High School Athletic Association, was friends with Bobby Knight.

“I grew up wanting to go to IU,” Guy said. “My grandparents had season tickets.”

It’s just that Tom Crean wasn’t Tony Bennett.

UVa’s coach did more for Guy than IU’s.

“I just didn’t really click with Crean,” Guy said. “I got respect for him, but it didn’t really click that he was going to be my father figure for four years."
The polite way of saying that Crean is a weird assclown that he wanted nothing to do with.

So you think it's Archie's fault that Guy didn't come to IU? The fact is that TC was our HC at the time and responsible for his recruitment. Not to worry, we got Devonte Green instead, so yes, that's on TC. Let's also not talk about Kris Wilkes, but again, we got Justin Smith.

This season has caused me to question and lose some faith in CAM, but he has laid out a plan with his inside out recruiting that make sense, has merit based on the past and is executing it. That leaves me feeling a lot better than I did about TC's approach.

Are we going to offer Luke Brown a scholly? He could be the next Guy or maybe even Bailey. At worst he is a Matt Roth. We can always use a sharpshooter and the kid has a great work ethic.

Is that really the Archie Culture that people talk about???? Luke will most likely end up at Purdue and kill us when he comes off screens and drains 3's. Just like Ryan Cline.

I guess what I meant is does Archie recruit shooters who will need an offense in order to get clean looks at the basket or does he prefer to recruit kids who play attacking defense and get baskets in transition.

How do derive Guy didnt go to IU bc of Miller? Thats just stupid. I only wrote what I wrote because it's what I read. You can live in your fantasy world that had Crean not been coach, Guy would have gone to IU. Maybe Guy wouldn't have liked another coach. Playing 'what ifs' is an immature game.

Fine, stuff like that happens. I only wrote what he said in an interview.Had he said what he thought about IU I would have included that. I'd have wanted to have Guy to attend IU, too, but for as much as he claimed to love IU he just didn't love it enough to go there. And isn't that what this forum wants - only those players who "really" want to go to IU? It was all about him anyway.

Crean was a weirdo dude. Not sure I would want him coaching me for four years no matter how much I loved IU.

Is that your recruiting philosophy? Sit back and wait for the kids who want to come to IU and only IU, no matter what?

No, but plenty of good players did play for for the weirdo. And now the nation's #1 or #2 player signed up with him. That doesn't guarantee success, of course, but who knows, had Guy attended IU, the program's fortunes might have been different. He could have been a statewide hero but he chose otherwise. Nothing against him but he didn't choose IU so I dont care much about 'what might have been'. Thx for your reply.

At least Crean would have us in the tournament with this team. In fact it’s probably a better roster than the one he won the Big Ten with in 2016.

I’m starting to miss Tommy B a little more and more with each loss.

Not necessarily. His comment that he simply clicked better with Coach Bennett doesn't imply anything extreme.

And how exactly would Crean have this team in the Tournament? Please elaborate.

Oh, and don't forget to take Romeo off the roster. And Phin. And every other player from Indiana, sans the hurt walk-on.

However, you can add back Grant Gelon. And I'll give you another player as equally as good as Tim Priller, since that's likely the type of player Tom would have added to the current roster.

Or maybe you could just STFU...

Yeah but not enough is the point.
Absolutely, but no team ever has ‘enough’. Theres no guarantee a coach not named Crean would have gotten Guy. Do you know who I think would have? Dan Dakich. He’s as close to a Knight mentality as there is. He’s no Knight fan anymore but he believes in tough D, responsibilty, and wouldnt shy from kicking ass. Plus he’s an IU guy and is big on ‘culture’, what IU has lacked since Knight was fired.

Come on now. Crean missed everything with Yogi, Vonleh, Troy Williams and Shehhey.....

Dakich was part of Sampson's staff. He had his opportunity.

we don't have to play hypotheticals with Guy. Our Coach was TC when he was in HS and committed to UVA, after having been known to have liked IU growing up and having a lot of family ties there. Would Miller have gotten he and Wilkes? There is no way of knowing, but again, based on his focus on top IN players, and his success in getting them, I think there's a very good chance he would have.

Yeah, you’re probably right but their are never any certainties. Thx for your reply.

Virginia was a much better fit for Guy including minutes.
