Inspiring story. I'm not even religious, but I'm a big believer in trying to be a kind, "good" person.

Whatever it takes for someone to do some self-reflection and change their outlook on life is a-ok to me. Religion, sobriety, therapy, whatever. He's clearly made huge steps in his personal life and is putting that back into the next generation.

And, <getting a little preachy here>, even for the non-religious, it reminds me of a preacher I heard once talking about H.A.L.T. Never let yourself get to Hungry (whether it be money, power, sex, success, etc.), Angry, Lonely, Tired. Even though it was tied into a biblical message, it's just a good perspective on life and how excesses can eat you up from the inside.
