Yep, you cannot have a loss like this in year 5. He has had enough time to build a program. This is really an embarrassing loss for the program. I guess he could pull off a miracle and get to a bowl, but it is not looking promising. What a shame.

You're fired!
He should be--worst job of play calling I have ever seen--don't think IU made one third down play or one fourth down play--kept going up thr middle and they were there to stop--and usually a loss--only time one worked was when Sud boot legged around the end for a TD--sure they missed Howard, but no excuse for the way this went down--can't blame people for not wanting to go to game--this has to rank as one of the most embarasing losse ever in IU history-Goodbye CW !!!

Lol..half of of dumb ****s asked for a 10 year extension 2 weeks ago. You guys suck!!! All of you!! Idiots.

You just don't recover from a meltdown like this. But I'n not surprised...honestly: who of us thought that 52 points would be enough when the 4th quarter started? But their scoring had concluded.

The second interception, throwing deep on first down? If anything, we needed to calm down and run the ball a couple of times. With the momentum turning to Rutgers, giving them the ball right back was devastating. Even if we went three and out, we would have taken the edge off some. You can't really blame the players if they're up 52-27 in the second half and you lose the game. It's almost impossible.

As I said in another thread, the only way to salvage any kind of fan support is for Glass to fire Wilson tomorrow, the fans will then get back behind the team, it won't fill up the stadium, but it'll be more support then they'll receive the rest of the season if Wilson is still at the helm...

I don't think firing him tomorrow does anything for the program or, most importantly, the players. Hes on the hot seat, that's for sure.

The seats will be emptier while KW is on the sidelines...you get rid of him, and I think you bring some more fans out...

I honestly am at a loss right now on what I think. I've supported CKW and think he has this thing headed in the right direction generally. Recruiting is up, and I see fits and starts where the D looks better. But we sure gave up waaaay too many big plays that killed us today. The optimist in me thinks those will progressively get better if we stay the course. However....

Very disturbing to me is the game-time decision making by CKW. He screws up way too much and it kills us.

But I dread the loss in recruiting momentum a coaching change right now or even after the season would bring. Wilson is getting B1G caliber players coming in here lately, and given where the program stands, I think it's probably about as good as can be expected at this point in time. But, I can't help but believe someone out there couldn't coach these kids better, during the game, and prevent a loss or two per season that CKW gives away.

So I don't know. I'll have to absorb this one for a while, while I absorb this stiff double Rye on the rocks....

I don't think it will have any impact on that, but it's not what you do if you care anything about the players.
Well the reality is that the majority of fans who don't like a coach won't show up to support the players...however, if/when the coach is removed from the equation, then some of them will come out...may not be right, but it happens...

It won't impact that at all because people will know that IU has written off the year, especially since you fired a guy with a winning record. Might as well just forfeit the rest of the games. Emulating Maryland, who just made a dumb move to compensate for their dumber move (firing Ralph Friedgen), makes no sense, either. Best to let the season play out and then decide whether he stays or goes. You yourself said it may not be right. If you believe that, then there's no way you do it now.

People who stay away don't stay away because of who the coach is or isn't.

It's over for Wilson. Glass won't do it but he'd be better off terminating him tomorrow to begin reaching out behind the scenes to other coaches for next year. Wilsons in over his head as a head coach. He may be a descent offensive coordinator but it's a mess down there.

His recruiting class for next year is not looking like it's going to be very good so whatever decommits you have aren't going to kill you.

If glass wants to win in football, spend the $$$ and get a head coach.

If he's fired they need to commit to paying $2.5 to $3.0 million a year for the next guy. But firing him now doesn't give them a head start. No one will talk to them now without seeing what other jobs open up.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. It's a giant downer as it seemed this thing was going in a better direction for once. Even though we barely beat SIU and nearly gave away a game in the bag against Wake, I wanted to believe things were different because this version ended up holding off those meltdowns and pulling out the wins. Seems clear now that nothing has changed.

New coaching staff does set things back a few years, but with Nate not returning is there any hope next year in any case? QB development was supposed to be KW's specialty, but it turns out it's been the worst of his talents based on results.

Don't know about everyone else, but about a 4 hour block just freed up on my Saturday's the next month. I can't allow myself to have in inkling of hope and get roped in again.

Agree that there's no point in canning him immediately. It opens the flood gates on our verbals, and the replacement isn't going to be named for months. An interim guy could luck into a couple wins and then they decide to keep him even though he's doesn't have the resume. Plus, sends a bad message to potential candidates that we'll kneejerk.

I truly hope they look for a guy that has shown success as a head coach, not a coordinator. Being good at one doesn't equate to the other (as we've seen too often). Plus with the coordinator you never know how much of his results are due to the head coach above him.

When IU was a flawed 4-0, there were some ominous traits that were emerging in regard to sloppy, unsound play, a penchant for continuing to give up big plays on defense, a habit of not maintaining focus, etc. When those were pointed out here, people were shouted down with the "we're 4-0 and people still complain" retorts. Now, those negative traits have come home to roost, and that's my big disappointment.

I think that firing him immediately shows that the athletic department is serious about turning this program around. Without question, this is a fireable loss when you couple it with the lack of any sort of improvement over the last few years.

How does it show that? By deciding to finish the season with one less coach? By sending the message to the other coaches that they're 6 weeks from unemployment? And by telling the players that no one knows who their next coach will be, but we're so committed to you and to the program that we'll tank the rest of the season because we'd rather make an emotional, rash decision than one based in thought and reason? How many players should quit the team this week? How many scholarships should be immediately revoked? How many games should be forfeited? After all, IU suffered a bitterly disappointing loss today, so the earth must be scorched as a result.
