So if you propose/promote a wacky law in your capacity as AG of a state should you be responsible for dealing with questions regarding the law when it's challenged in Court? Texas AG Ken Paxton evidently felt he should be immune from being questioned under oath when a group of citizens took issue with the legality/ constitutionality of the restrictive Texas abortion law. Especially the provisions that allowed the State of Texas to sue people in other states who offered assistance to people needing abortion care who leave Texas to try and obtain one...
Seems pretty common sensical to me. You wanna play Fascist, then put on your big boy pants and deal with the outraged citizens seeking answers in a legal context. But when the plaintiff's legal team attempted to serve their subpoena on Paxton, he did his best Josh Hawley and ran as if his life was in danger. In fact his explanation for why he refused to respond to the knock on his door by a Hispanic process server is basically racist as hell. But the most damning aspect of his explanation is that while he claims he was worried about danger to his family, it was his WIFE that he ultimately sent out to face the supposed "danger"
by picking him up in the getaway car... err truck...
As they point out, he has been under a subpoena for SEC fraud for the past 7 yrs, and is the subject of multiple whistleblower complaints...So he likely did think the subpoena was related to one of those issues. Obviously a stellar guy that the GOP voters keep electing...
And when the Judge who originally ruled that he didn't have to testify because he wasn't "notified" in a timely manner, heard about the actual series of events, he changed his mind and has now ordered Paxton to testify... Ouch...
