He has a lot of development to do.
He's awful on defense and his shot is inconsistent and not reliable at this point in time.
Good news is, he's got three and 2/3rds years to develop. Hope the fanbase let's him.
Smith wasn’t trying to force things. He stayed pretty patient and made some good plays. He also played pretty good defense. I think this game shows his maturity and positive progression as a player.Smith could not find his niche avsinst a very athletic team.
He's slow to react on defense. Archie doesn't give big minutes to poor defenders. Just ask Damezi Anderson, Clifton Moore, and Jake Forrester.I don't know what is wrong with Hunter. Is he hurt again?
Even though Smith did not put up big numbers I thought he was active on the boards keeping the ball alive even though he didn’t get the rebound. He also hustled on defense which is a strength for him.Smith wasn’t trying to force things. He stayed pretty patient and made some good plays. He also played pretty good defense. I have to agree with this. Smith took and missed a 3 badly last night because the LA Tech Defense gave him the shot, the next time Smith got the ball wide open on the 3pt line he thought for a second and then wisely passed the ball. Yes, Smith is maturing in his decision making as a player. Last year I remember if he was wide open from the 3pt line he shot it and missed 80% of the time. He shot it well against Michigan State because Izzo dared Smith to shoot the 3, playing the high percentage that he would miss, but that game he made them. If you took the Michigan State games out of the equation last season, Smith would have missed far more than 80% of his 3pt shots.Smith wasn’t trying to force things. I agree!Shon Morris made the comment that La Tech was focusing on taking Smith out of the game and it seemed that was their plan. Smith helps us by not shooting 3s unless he's open and can step in to his shot. Last year he seemed to think he should shoot every time he was open, and didn't consider why he was open. I think he should take an open 3 if we're in to our offense and he feels good about it, but not look to shoot more unless he gets an early one to go down. At best I seem him as a streaky 3 pt shooter, but if he gets 1 or 2 to go down, it will open the floor for him, which is his strength anyway. He's actually progressing beyond what I expected out of him after his first year.

Careful. I said Hunter would be a role player this year and got trashed. You are on a slippery slope Travel is expected to be severely impacted through at least Wednesday morning. Consider altering your travel plans, if possible.

Yeah. CAM has really helped him mature as a player. He can help the team in more ways than scoring and rebounding.Shon Morris made the comment that La Tech was focusing on taking Smith out of the game and it seemed that was their plan. He is limited offensively which has been pointed out on this thread and many others. He clearly struggles shooting the three. I do think his decision making is better than last year. Hope he continues to improve.

Smith played good defense last night and Archie trusts him the most out of anyone

Phinisee is the best defensive player on IU, TJD, and Smith. He does play him more minutes than one would expect, especially last year with his inconsistency. Not sure if it's trust, or lack of options. I wouldn't say he trusts him more than RP, he just needs to get healthy.
