Saw a post yesterday on FB from a hiking group of a gal who is hiking the White Mountains over the 4th. I'm doing nothing so interesting! My girlfriend is coming down with her son and daughter and my daughters down, so I'll have a houseful: 2 adults, 2 young adults, 2 teen girls (nothing in a 2 piece pervs) and 3 dogs. And, I'm charged with entertaining them for a weekend where rain is forecast pretty much every day. Should be interesting!

Hoping we'll: hit Foodtruck Friday, grill out, hit whitewater center (rafting, mtn biking, zipline, paddleboards & kayaks, drops, etc... If you get to Charlotte, check it out!), see fireworks, shoot fireworks (it is SC!), go tubing, take dogs to play/swim, maybe fish... What are your plans?

It's Big Green Egg gourmet time on Monday..

My house now; Both daughters, grandson, occasionally son-in-law, the two of us.

Pony, horse, two cats, four dogs....

Four rescues, a stray , a puppy mill rescue.....

And whatever wanders onto the property...

We put our house up for sale Wednesday. Want/need to move back to Indiana (Greenfield area). There is a showing at 2 PM. today, and if we're "lucky" there may be some Saturday and Sundy. A necessary evil of course, but a pain in the ass.

Range time this evening (gotta stay sharp so I don't shoot my car instead of the catalytic converter thieves), a hike on Saturday, wedding on Sunday and a cookout at a buddy's house Monday.

My 4th plan is dog sitting for my daughter and pool time. My son will probably come by to swim at some point and we will grill out. We will walk to mass Saturday afternoon and invite our friends over for margaritas. We will sit outside the evening of the 4th with only the pool light on and my tranquilized dog by my side. WWIII will be going on all around me. More likely that my dog will be in the garage with the radio on loud to hide the fireworks and the grandpup will be by my side.

I don't want to go anywhere this weekend. I've worked hard on my back yard this past winter and spring. I have it exactly like I want. It is an oasis free from idiots and assholes. This weekend will be a preview of my vacation. We cancelled our trip. Cancelled flights, crowded airports, nigh airline prices and inflated lodging and food prices took the excitement out of getting away. I've traveled enough. Travelling isn't relaxing to me. People can start coming to see me. My drinks are cold, the grill is always ready and the water is crystal clear. Why go anywhere else?

Actually making the trip back to the lake in N. Indiana … going to play some golf, grill some food, enjoy some water sports, drink some beer, watch some fireworks shot out over the lake and most importantly … spend some time with family.

What lake? I went back with a girl I was dating to her brothers house on Lake James (think he's actually on Jimmerson) and they did fireworks there. Great holiday!

I was born in Angola and very familiar with both of those … I have family at Sylvan Lake (in Rome City just outside Kendallville), so have been spending time here. I live in Greensboro, NC … so we usually make an annual summer trip around (or during) the 4th of July holiday.

Just so you know ..

If it happens that you injure yourself .... I only have one comment.

Ha ha ha ha... karma b*tch. hope you blow your hands off ..
Just so you know, it did not happen that I blew off a hand or any body part. I don't think I ever even saw a firework all weekend first hand, although I heard plenty. You made some good points (in a completey douchy way) so why don't you get off your *ss and do something about it if you feel so strongly? Otherwise you are just being the person that you claim to hate: whiner!

Personally, I love a good fireworks show. I wonder if an "explosion-less" firework is possible?

That one is the real deal, not just a few Roman candles in the back of the van.

Hopefully you get good offers on first day- market still has steam in Indy anyways
