Joe Lunardi likes Wyoming over Indiana

reasoning? Their HC has “excellent initials”.
Wyoming is slow and plays no defense. I’ve been watching games. You force Maldonado to shoot it and they fall apart. Both bigs they have are not better than race and trace. They aren’t great athletes either.

is it a requirement you have to be goofy AF looking to be a bracketologist? See Jerry Palm and Joe Lunardi.

I never listen to Seth Davis because he never played or coached basketball. Don’t know for sure, but Lunardi looks like he never played.
And how the hell did Seth Davis ever become a bball analyst?
Not saying you have to have played to talk basketball. But to be in their positions, you should have.

Not sure you have to have played or coached, but it would be awfully helpful if you had some idea of what you’re seeing when watching a game.

Most of these guys are f’ing nerds who probably can’t walk and chew gum at the same time much less play basketball.

Davis is a Connecticut trust fund baby Duke grad. He’s a smart guy but his path to babbling about hoops was a short one . I think his dad was one of Bill Clinton’s lawyers.

Half this board would beat either of these guys 12-0 in a game of one and one

Hello Hoosier fans. I am fairly sure Joe Lunardi did not even have Wyoming making the field. FYI Ken Pomeroy is a UW grad.

I think that bracket guys typically get so lost in the weeds of spreadsheets/stats and comparing wins/losses/resumes that they don't watch much actual basketball. That's generally fine when trying to predict how the committee will set up the bracket, but not so much when having an opinion on how teams will match up.

Now Lunardi is decent at predicting the bracket (although certainly not good enough considering how much he's likely getting paid at ESPN), but any actual predictions/analysis of games are pretty much worthless.

Re Seth Davis….one word…daddy.

his Daddy is Lanny Davis. Of the Clinton dynasty. He know little about ball. Reads what others have written or told him.

Jerry Palm is like the poster child for his alma mater, which is…….exactly who you’d expect: Purdue. He’s some number-crunching nerd from up in “The Region” who went to Purdue and still dreams of Pedophile Pete, their creepy mascot.

I don't know, I'm starting to get a bad premonition on this. 1.) I'm up at this time after lightly objecting to what my wife made for dinner but still ate it, Probably enough to throw me off tomorrow 2.) a late tip off, 3.) nothing from Dayton has been a good luck charm for us, 4.) starting to get the same sick sense where I totally expect to win against one of these western conference weirdo's, the same feeling I had many years ago when Chauncey Billups and Colorado kicked our ass when I expected to win easily. Can't they just forfeit and go watch the rodeo? Hope it is a bad dream, I know they don't have Chancey Billups like talent, but something woke me up. I hope it's a reverse jinx, I never had a bad feeling before that one and was totally shocked

That's funny, I have a particular dislike for those from the "Reeegion" too

Listening to Brad Evans yesterday and he was talking about the prognosticators that were in a pool to predict the seedings and (not only who made it but what seed they were) and he said Lunardi finished outside the top 150 and palm was at the bottom so I feel good about our chances.....
I think the national media skipped how we looked in the tourney and looked solely at our conference and season records

once you're in the tourney, none of that matters anymore. It's all about the match up. TJD and X need to stay out of foul trouble. I think their athleticism will be the difference tonight if they can stay on the court 30+ min each.

The more I learn about them...the less I'm liking the specific matchups. We've struggled against tall/long playmakers all year. And their best player is a 6'7", long, playmaker. Champagne, Boeheim, Johnny Davis twice, the long Michigan guys, the Murray twins twice, Michigan State's wings... I don't like it.

Well, I doubt this guy can shoot like Johnny Davis or Murray twins and I have read he is not real athletic so he is not like UM or MSU wings.
Not saying he won't be a problem but I hope our defense is something they haven't seen yet!

Yeah, but this guy doesn't sound like a shooter, which all those guys were. I think IU fans are so snakebitten from tournaments in the last 20+ years, that we always see the downside. I'd be more concerned about a team that can really shoot it, like I believe St Marys can. We should win tonight, and outside of that one guy, I think we match up pretty well. We just need to find who/how to slow him down, whether that's XJ stepping up and being physical and using his quickness, or JG, MK... I think if we contain him, and as Chicago said, keep XJ and TJD on the floor, we'll be fine.

Our defense is very solid overall, but there's certainly a weakness when it comes to defending really good, long, wing players. Hence, the concern with Maldonado. Hope you're right though!

I think this is the one, then we get rolling. I like our chances after

We are across the board more athletic and faster. Probably bigger too. It all hinges on making Maldonado really work. Keep him off the block. Stay home too.

Just watched his highlights. Very rugged but almost everything is down low or at the line. Does sort of remind me of Harper Jr, but without the shooting. He's going to be hard to guard. The one thing I like is that we should have Race or Trayce back to help out, although it looks like they do a lot of clear outs for him. From the earlier description, they do have 1 really primary deep threat, so you can't leave him, but it looks to me like digging on this guy might be pretty effective, if you can get to him in time. From the limited time I saw their post guy, he doesn't look like one of the really physical or athletic posts that can give TJD trouble and I also don't think he's so big that Race can't help on him. They look battle tested but I think we should win this.

Here's the video I watched:

You mean Harper Jr?

Edit: I know Hunter is on PUKe, trying to see the similarity

I'm going to guess they react to off-defenders digging at his dribble because his assist rate is really high (tenth nationally). I feel like this is a guy Parker can guard, but depends on his quickness. Ideally, it's a job for Geronimo, but worried about fouls there.

That's kind of the approach I think might work best: live with Stewart, Kopp, Geronimo and Galloway with TJD and Race helping in the post and other wings, aside from whoever's guarding the shooter, digging on the guy. Just make it rough on him, knowing he's going to get his 16-20, but make him take 18-20 shots to do it.

That’s what people do. Keep him out of the post make him pass or shoot it.
