For all of the crap Biden gets for domestic failures, such as immigration, crime and curbing inflation, let's review his foreign policy record.
  • Ukraine attacked by Russia - ongoing shitshow
  • Israel attacked by Hamas via Gaza - ongoing shitshow with neither side supportive of Grandpa Joe
  • Haiti - spiraling out of control; turns out it is a shithole
  • Armenia - already attacked and on the brink of further attacks by Azerbaijan
  • Afghanistan - shit show withdrawal, place is a disaster
  • Iraq - basically controlled by Islamic extremists
  • Syria - launching attacks and killings US military
  • Taiwan - shitting itself right now as China continues threats
  • Yemen - Houthi rebels doing whatever they want
What am I missing?

Jimmy Carter is thrilled that Joe has taken over the lead for biggest foreign policy failure in Presidential history

JDM, in addition to all those tragic events which Biden allowed to occur...

2023 saw the world's highest temperatures in history and a continuing decline in the number of global democracies.

Joe barely knows what country he’s in. You expect him to keep up with all those Mexicans in Syria as well?

Speaking of Jimmy Carter.

Soon after the election of Ronald Reagan the 56 American hostages in Iran were released.

Reagan, out of respect for Carter's dedication to getting the hostages released, arranged for Carter to be the first to greet the freed hostages at the airport in Germany.

This gesture of kindness by Reagan might not happen in today's political climate. Could this be why, in the eyes of some Americans, America isn't as great as it once was.

And? What are we supposed to do about it?

Shore up our allies and bases in the region and get steppin on our own semi-conductor capacity (start by removing all the woke constraints from the CHIPS act).

But we're not stopping China from taking an Island 80 miles away when we're halfway around the world if that's what China wants to do.

Come on Peter Pan. Count Chocula. Put that war boner away for once.

"I think he has been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades,” former Defense Secretary Robert Gates

And remember what John McCain said about Blinken.

Blinken is a total buffoon. He was shot down once and Brandon decides to push him through the second time around once McCain was gone.

How do you reconcile this with Taiwanese citizen's preferences though? Are they worth nothing?

Several polls have indicated an increase in support of Taiwanese independence in the three decades after 1990. In a Taiwanese Public Opinion Foundation poll conducted in June 2020, 54% of respondents supported de jure independence for Taiwan, 23.4% preferred maintaining the status quo, 12.5% favored unification with China, and 10% did not hold any particular view on the matter. This represented the highest level of support for Taiwanese independence since the survey was first conducted in 1991.

Now, there could certainly be some bias and pressure built into those figures, but the unification figure is so low, it is quite improbable that anything near a majority would desire that outcome.

not sure it can be reconciled. was just stating that the US flipped recognition in the 70s, not recently. doing so served our purpose, not Taiwan's.

recognizing Taiwan as a separate nation is the big red-line for China. once Nixon broke through, the US realized no diplomacy could take place unless we played along with China's lie.

It just feels like a much worse version of the Ukraine would be the inevitable.

IMO this is definitely a situation where China and the US are both happy to drum up drama for internal consumption and military budgets, but both sides know this war is not likely to happen. not in any of our lifetimes, anyway. China relies too heavily on distant shipping lanes they can't currently protect. they also need access to foreign markets that would immediately be closed to them, by policy and/ or naval blockade. china currently can't quite feed itself. these things would mean big problems for an isolated China facing a coalition of technologically superior countries.

I hope you are right. While China seems rational (relatively speaking), the amount of rhetoric and predictions for an eventual war over Taiwan seem to constantly increase. But, perhaps it’s just fear tactics.

ya, my asterisk would be that every 100 to 500 years (give or take) China implodes under the weight of internal and external pressures. anything could happen if we happen to catch one of those waves but I just don't see it. they would fail to hold Taiwan even if they could take it and the consequences at home would be horrific.

fingers crossed

It is not a failure to the Biden Regime which is now the party of war. I'm sure Raytheon or wherever the Defense Sectratary came from is getting big bucks to do live testing of their devices in Ukraine.

Every A&D company is feeling the demand, in a positive way.

I mean, come on people... this is crazy rhetoric to use to describe two critical Allies in Asia.
