You might have a point regarding Germany vis a vis the other European powers/alliances if we're discussing responsibility for WW1...

But prior to WW2 the Allies (Chamberlain and the French) practically bent over backwards to appease Hitler and guarantee "Peace in our Time". While you can make a case that Germany was not to blame for WW1, by 1938 Germany and Italy were by far the aggressors leading the world to war...

I lived in Germany for 6 1/2 yrs and had many German friends. But the WW2 era of German Citizenry was not as Innocently unaware of Nazi atrocities as they'd have you believe. So the idea among some on the Allied sidelines that Germany should pay for her crimes is not as out of the realm of making some sense as you portray it...

In some respects, the Nazis attracted the worst elements of German society. I have no idea why you try to defend them and act like the Jews and other intended victims of the Final Solution are actually to blame for Hitler, Himmler and Heydrich's murderous impulses.

Since you like books, Friedrich Kellner's diary beginning in 1939 is fascinating. It wasn't published in German till 2011, and an English translation in 2018. He was a minor Civil Servant member of the Social Democrats who documented what was known and when.

He chronicled the history of WW2 Germany on the homefront ( in an unobtrusive way) from his home in a quaint little village in Hesse, not too far from where I lived in the early 80s. This video is pretty informative...
