Jerk?

This probably won't end well. I first thought he was a boozer but he allegedly is involved with Cocaine and other drugs. I saw some pictures a few months ago and he looked skinny and gaunt. Apparently trashed a house in Hollywood causing $32k in damage. Dude is out of control.

Not sure to whom you're referring, but these sound like the helpless utterances of a frightened parent who's watching his kid self-destruct. Mental illness and the addiction that can result from it are a scary disease. It's a sad deal.
It's pretty obvious by now that Manziel's problems go way beyond the "spoiled athlete acting behaving like a rock star" scenario many people (including myself) once thought. Addiction is a complicated thing and some people never beat their demons. I hope he can find the help he needs and the inner strength to help himself. Substance abuse not only damages the abuser, it damages those who love them as well.

I don't think so, if you're referring to the dad talking openly about his fears for his clearly addicted son. Every alcoholic's family knows that the one thing you can't talk about is the alcoholic's drinking problem because it'll set the alcoholic off into a rage . . . same thing goes with any substance abuser's family. The hell of it is, the only way to get the substance abuser back from their addiction - and the family back from its codependency with the abuser - is to face the issue square on, and talk about it openly.

Manziel's dad is being a concerned dad, not a jerk. He'd be a jerk if he'd keep trying to put a positive spin on all of the nonsense . . .

. . . the problem is that the dad may be too late in becoming open about all this.
