Jeff Saturday wins coaching debut

The thing I remember most was the time Peyton told Jeff on the sideline that he needed to shut up and let Manning call the plays. Jeff wanted to run the ball on goal and short, but Manning called pass plays to score.

Rumor has it that Irsay and Saturday are drinking buddies. 1-0 never looked so good!!

Yeah..., and Manning needed to shut up and listen... If it hadn't been for the Colts running the ball more at the end of SB41 Manning would have found a way to choke that one away too...

A monument to his Offensive Lines should take the place of that homage' to Manning out in front of "the Luke"...

Perhaps a fresh voice was needed to break a confidence death spiral.

Then again, the Raiders could have been one of a few franchises with bigger problems than the Colts.

Congrats Jeff.
The OL looked 100% better...

Their D looked like someone from our staff got ahold of it...😖

I wonder if Saturday and Bill Cowher will be exchanging Christmas cards this year.

Joe Thomas was bashing Jeff in the same manner.

Here's the thing, I get that Cowher was a coach and went through the ranks so he has a lot of emotion tied into his thoughts around this and unable to see clearly. I also understand that coaches work hard in hopes of getting promoted to HC some day, a lot of guys in a lot of industries do that; however, that work does not mean you are guaranteed to be next in line for anything. Jim Irsay owns the company and he can decide if he just wants to finish out the year with someone he knows personally really well, at the helm. That is his choice and for people to say he needed to do what everyone has always done or its a slap in the face, is merely selfish thinking on their part.

With all of that being said, it was a REALLY strange choice.

Tough lesson for a lot of folks to learn in ANY job, but you are correct. Proof is in the pudding. We'll see how the rest of the season plays out, I don't think Ryan is the guy but he's what they have. Was also surprised they've got a 30 year old calling the O, that makes for some interesting viewing on Sundays.

ha Right. It was basically Bill ranting that life isn't always fair. And?

Funny to me that people are making such a big deal about the Saturday hiring. He's only been named the interim coach which isn't that big of a deal. Pretty much the entire staff is still intact and has been working together for at least the past 6 months. Saturday basically doesn't have to do anything but guide the ship a bit and the let the coaches do their jobs.

Irsay can do whatever the hell he wants with his team. Saturday may be his buddy but he's also been in the trenches longer and won more games and been around more great players than anyone on the Colts sidelines. As long as he gains the respect of the other coaches and his players, he'll probably do quite well.

It also goes to show you how little an impact a HC truly has on the individual games themselves. The HC needs to be someone who can hold a locker room, motivate his players and hire the right people around him. On game day he just has to use good clock management, that's really it.

I noticed Jonathan Taylor was a focal point the entire game yesterday. Why he hasn't been all year is a mystery to me.

All things that CTA can't do!

Not sure why the need to pile on. The biggest issue CTA has had is making bad choices for his staff and holding on to Hiller for way too long.

Hell, if he had gotten rid of Hiller at the end of last year, then this year may have been at least mediocre even with Bell as OC.

I don't know if we will fire him at the end of this year given the high buyout amount. He may not have been as good as most of us previously thought but I doubt he is as bad as we currently think either.

College coaches have more of an impact because they essentially act as coach, GM and minority owner of the team when you consider all of their roles. But in professional sports, I think the best ones just have to be motivational psychologists who knows how to find good leaders to surround himself with. All qualities college coaches need but college coaches have a lot more on their plate.

I'm aware of the injury, but Indy was pass happy right out of the gate this season. I don't believe JT was knicked up starting the season. Baffled me then and still does.
If the D puts 8 men in the box to stop #28, you pass.

Because Frank Reich is the smartest guy in the room. You should know that.
From the "interesting theories" department. Guy at the grocery store saw my Colts hat Saturday and we started talking about the Colts. His theory is the only way a high priced line like that would fail like they did was because they WANTED to force the issue of Reich as coach. Caveat that it was against once of the worst teams in the league, but they did seem to play a pretty good game Sunday (just 1 sack).

Uh, you kinda worded this poorly, but whatever you're trying to convey, do not ever underestimate the power of point shaving. Just ask Josh Allen.
