Jalen Haralson wow

I buddy of mine just saw Haralson play against Booker. He said Jalen was the best player on the floor and is the best player in the state of Indiana. His opinion but I sure hope IU is sitting well with him recruiting
He’s a stud. Very different type of player to Booker though. They’re both NBA level kids most likely.

Booker got tore up yesterday by the kid from Kokomo
Where they guarding each other? Flory and Xavier play totally different games. Xavier has a big upside. Hit 3 threes and did a crazy move to dunk from the perimeter. Would love both but Xavier fits in at a 3-4. A 6’11 wing would be great.

Booker guarded him yes. Booker has extreme talent but he doesn’t play hard very often and looks uninterested. Talent is there to be a one and done but he also could be a huge bust as well.

I watched the game. He didn’t look disinterested to me. He looked like he played in the system. He dragged flory out on the floor and the guards feasted. That’s something Flory couldn’t do. Booker also hit 3 threes in a row to extend the lead out of Kokomos range. Flory is good but he isn’t a stretch type. I believe Booker will actually be better in college as he won’t be playing in the post as much. We will see but I want Booker over flory if it comes down to it.

Well Flory will be playing inside. Booker should play more inside than he does. Booker couldn’t guard Flory at all. Booker will play a stretch 4 in college. Jaran Jackson jr type kid.

I disagree. They won state without input like that. He drug those bigs out all year. No different in that game. He’s a perimeter type that can take his guy off the dribble. He’s drawing big ratings for that reason. We saw 3 guys with his exact skill set get drafted 1, 2, 3. We saw guys like flory not drafted at all. If Flory develops a jump shot he’s in that conversation.

What do you disagree with? That Booker should score more in the paint? Flory put 27 on him. I would love to see Booker Flory and Harralson at IU. I’m just saying Booker is mainly potential currently.

Newsflash. Flory lost. Booker did exactly what he was supposed to do. Booker is a team player and it showed in this game. They had a gameplan and it worked almost flawlessly. So was Booker supposed to go against the coach just to look better?

Oh geesh why do I even talk basketball with you.
It’s silly to just say he’s better when his team lost. He certainly didn’t carry them to victory. Booker did exactly what he was supposed to. He hit shots when it counted. Flory didn’t.

Where did I say Flory is better? Newsflash, I didnt. Flory had a great game with Booker guarding him. Like I said above I would love to have Booker, Flory and Harralson at IU. I have watched Booker a few times and he definitely could be more assertive on the floor.

Booker to me is the jewel. His skill set is coveted. Imho

Did the coach forget to tell him to play defense?

He had 27 dropped on him ..

I saw a team that did what it had to do. Only scored 66. Booker didn’t have to shut him down per say. And normally Booker wouldn’t be guarding him in college.

Booker should play 90% of his minutes on the perimeter between now and his draft day. The trend is beyond obvious now that NBA teams are drafting "wings". Flory should be working on his perimeter game as well, to further the point.

Lets try to get both of them!!!!!

Couple 4A thoughts from Charlie Hughes...

Cathedral isn't going to walk to back to back titles this next season. Fishers gave them all they could handle, and Haralson is only going to be getting better. Ben Davis might just be better than Cathedral, they're damn good! And Penn might actually be a team from up north capable of challenging them. They beat Carmel, and then beat Cathedral pretty handily. Obviously summer basketball tournaments don't tell the whole story...but as of now, it sure looks like the 4A tourney is more open than one would have thought after seeing Cathedral destroy everyone last year.

The new tournament format could make for some really, really fun Semi States.

Don't think Jaron Tibbs played for Cathedral this weekend. He's arguably their best scorer despite all the recent hype from Booker. Cathedral should be a heavy favorite to repeat.

What’s wrong with being a complete player? Nobody is saying don’t play on the perimeter. I’m saying he could be more aggressive and physical attacking the bucket. Most college coaches agree with that. I don’t see him comIng to the big ten to be honest

If I were laying money today, I'd put it on Ben Davis.

Cathedral might still be the favorite, but it definitely isn't the foregone conclusion it felt like after last year's tourney run.

And a team like Penn controlling them the way they did...shouldn't happen. I know, I know, just a summer tournament. They had one of their best players out. I get it.

They're still the best team in the state, most likely. But there are a handful of teams, I think, that could knock them off. Depending on how the regional/Semi state draws shake out, their Semi State could be INSANE!

Tibbs is a difference maker and it will show without a crowded backcourt (played with two other D1 guards). Davis will get some low-major looks and Booker is obviously Booker. They had two really good freshman last year that didn't get to play that much varsity given the talent and experience in the starting lineup.

Crazy thing is that Cathedral wasn't the heavy favorite heading into last years tournament. Cathedral hadn't won a tournament game in 4 years prior to this last season and made a great run to the finals. Agree there will be fierce competition this year, especially at the sectional and regional level, but Cathedral should have two Indiana All-Stars and a third player in Jake Davis that is a 3 year starter who should be a D1 player come Fall 2023. Not that many teams in the state can match that kind of firepower.

As an "Indy outsider"...it was baffling, to me, how they lost a single game last year after watching the state title game. Granted, while Chesterton was undefeated, they weren't at the same level as a number of Indy area teams. But the only way that Cathedral team had 6 losses, and even had close games in their tournament run, was focus and motivation.

That will be an issue again this year, I'm sure...possibly even worse after winning it all.

And teams like Ben Davis, who has D1 level kids, Fishers, Carmel, who also have at least 1 high major kid of their own...but for sure don't have the level and depth of talent that Cathedral has...are good enough and close enough (after a closer look), that they could very easily knock them off. Add in what looks like a legitimate contender from up north in Penn...and what I personally thought was gonna be a cakewalk next spring...likely won't be.

Maybe it equates to UNC. They had some horrible early losses and performances and then get to the title game, look like a legit force and came within a whisker of another title. Maybe you're right about distraction of winning it all, but I expect UNC will start the season more solidly and be a top 10 team all year.
