Jakai Newton called Dakich a clown

I got to be honest. I didn't see Dan's comment. But when I watched the Notre Dame game I thought,"They had to play the extra game too. Why are they looking so good?"
It's not about the extra game. NDs play-in game was their second game in what, 11 days? It was IUs 4th game in 6 days. The comparison of ND and IU is beyond laughable.

So Notre Dame had a play in game? Others as well. Losing vs getting embarrassed is two different things and we were embarrassed
ND played 2 games since 3/5. Ha How are you making a case for them being the same as IU playing 5 games in 8 days?

5 games in 8 days. I don’t know why people are now saying 7. Maybe because X did?

They played Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They had Sunday and Monday off before playing Tuesday and again on Thursday.

they played a total of two games over the final 5 days. Not ideal, but the travel delay was probably the bigger factor.

You are F***ing doubling down on this?
Did ND have 5 games in 7 days?
You think the SM coach was blowing smoke? I noticed you didn't comment on his quotes.
To review, he said that he could see IU was "gassed" at half time. Why would that be? Couldn't be because of the schedule and the mental strain not to even mention the physical, of playing that many critical games in such a short period of time. Nah, that couldn't be it, EVEN though the opposing coach could see it.
When was the lead built? Right before halftime and in the second half. Hmmm, that couldn't have anything to do with being "gassed" could it.
Quit using the word "we". You are no IU fan.

The new generation of IU fans thinks we should throw a party because IU made the tournament.

The old school thinks getting 30 pieced by an ok St Mary’s team is disgraceful.

So, does IU want to be Iowa or Duke? Only time will tell.

Dakich acts like an idiot for views. I don’t believe his take is entirely wrong.

This years team was massive front runners. Playing the victim card for 5 games in 7 days, while in reality they should accept responsibility for getting suspended at Northwestern and blowing almost every late game situation therefore finishing 9th in a conference named the Big Ten.

It’s not coincidence that X is the Twitter all-star and Miller Kopp loves tic-toc. Anyone see a connection here? Now we’re patting a junior in high school on the back for going at a goofy radio guy?

I don’t even know you folks anymore.
@Cavanagh
@YOTHN

I believe they call this a “ratio” in your douchey little Twitter world.

Take note of how the people feel you twits.

He’s an asshat for pointing out its embarrassing getting you’re ass kicked by St. Mary’s by 30? He’s actually right this time. It was a pathetic performance.
He's an asshat for playing to the crowd about it from his platform. Lots of us may have similar thoughts. It takes a special kind of asshattery for a former player to attack the team on Twitter because some fans are making excuses (not the players).

I just looked back at Notre Dame and that 'Bama game was their 4th game in 14 days (the way you and I count), while SMC was IU's 5th in 8 days.

I've really never given too much thought to fatigue in college hoops outside of conference tourney's, when everybody is playing back-to-back anyway.

This IU thing in 2022 is a bit unreal though, right? Only pro baseball teams play 5 games in 8 days. I don't think they do that in the NBA, but I don't pay much attention to pro hoops either so I could be wrong.

Before I really thought about it, I was like "don't make excuses". Now, I've turned a corner on this, maybe IU had no shot against anybody with a pulse under those circumstances. They need to remember this well and don't get in the position to be scratching and clawing for Dayton ever again!

Avoiding the topic like usual.

L
Go tell Brad Underwood who said his team struggled last year due to being exhausted from too many games In a short period. Something Tom Izzo has been quoted saying many times over. The St. Mary's coach also said IU had no real chance before it even started due to the scheduling. But Vid and DD know better. Again, you're a douche.

I’m part of the old-school you reference. Been following IUBB for more than 45 years. I didn’t think the loss was disgraceful at all. It was a bad loss for sure. I hated seeing us not execute well on either end and SM execute flawlessly. It was very obvious that one team was fatigued and the other well rested. IU has a flawed roster and has to have everything clicking really well to win games, especially against good comp. I’d argue, given our substantial deficiencies, that we did well this year. Beating Michigan and Illinois and then a solid Wyoming team soon after showed a lot of character and toughness, something that had been missing for many years. The lost to SM was not disgraceful, something that implies in my view a severe moral failing. Russia attacking Ukraine was disgraceful. Our losing by 30 to a tough, talented and well rested opponent after fighting like hell to make the tournament? No.

I’m with you here.
Overall I believe Woody has laid the foundation for re-building the program.
I can’t stand the incessant bitching and moaning that occurs on here by a few posters. At the same time, the fan boys that can’t see that we had a leadership vacuum at the guard position are just as troublesome

It’s amazing that these players can play 5+ games per weekend in AAU multiple weekends in a row, but now 5 games in 8 days is simply too much and an excuse.

Win some more games in the regular season and you don’t have to worry about a play in game. Turns out, the goal of the play in games are not to make it easy on those teams.

Back to the OP, I may withdraw my criticism of DD now. I don’t want any spitters in my food deliveries.

I don’t understand why it’s so difficult for some people to accept that fatigue obviously played a factor in the game. Not the only factor, maybe not the most important factor. We played 34 games this season. We beat two of the best teams in the country. We came very close to several others. This was the worst game we played all year. Do we think St. Mary’s was better than PU, Illinois, or Wisconsin? I don’t. Do we think the players didn’t want to win or were distracted by tik tok? That’s ridiculous. No one is happy with the results, but I don’t see how anyone can question fatigue played into it.

Yeah those AAU games are certainly equivalent. They play 100% at both ends of the court and are mentally taxed. Not close to the same.

Those AAU teams are playing against AAU teams on the same schedule. That’s not a valid comparison.

I think the fatigue factor with the 5 games in 8 days narrative is overblown. I'm more convinced it was the bullshit travel fiasco that had them up all night and getting little to no sleep and having to prepare and play that evening that played a larger role. There's a reason they have curfews and bed checks and the like before big games. I did my share of all nighters when I was that age and I'll guarantee my performance the following day was subpar.

They had a full day of rest. Their travel fiasco was Wednesday morning. They didn’t play until Thursday evening.

You are equating AAU with D1 tournament Bball? Really?
SMH. 🤦‍♂️

You're right. Not as bad as I was thinking.

That said, I still think it was a factor, moreso than the "5/8" talk. YMMV.

As far as being worn out goes? Absolutely. It’s not a valid excuse. SMU was simply a better team. Woodson has the off-season to completely gut and reassemble the team.

Ok, it wasn't playing 5 games in 8 days but it was the travel?
You don't think the two may have had a cumulative effect?

I think the biggest factor was that SMU was the better team by a wide margin on Thursday evening.

I think it was a combination of the two.
