50 WINS FOR MOREN

It makes her the third fastest coach to reach 50 wins in school history in her 84 games at the helm behind Bea Gordon (60 games) and Felisha Lagette-Jack (82 games). A win on Sunday would also give Moren her 250th career win as she holds an all-time record of 249-164 in her 14 year career.

BANKS GOES BACK TO COLLEGE
It will be a homecoming of sorts for IU assistant coach Janese Banks as she returns to Madison for the opposition. Banks played four years at Wisconsin (2005-08) where she averaged 12.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game and earned three All-Big Ten honors and three All-Big Ten Academic selections in her career. She finished her career as one of 10 players in Badgers history to score 1,500 career points.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE
Cahill recorded her eighth double-double of the season on Monday when she scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a win over Penn State. JENN'S CONTINUES TO SCORE
Senior center Jenn Anderson continues to provide a solid scoring threat for the Hoosiers. She recorded her fourth-straight double-figure scoring game on Monday night when she scored 11 points against Penn State. Anderson recorded a career night on inside the Crisler Center on Jan. 10 as she tied a team-high and career-high 21 points on 9-for-13 shooting and added a career-high 12 rebounds. She is now averaging 11.4 points in Big Ten play on a 63.6 field goal percentage and grabbing 6.4 rebounds through seven league games.

She officially broke the all-time school record with her 50th double figure scoring game on Dec. 21 against Stony Brook. She takes over the record from IU great Karna Abram, who did it 49 consecutive times between 1984-85 and 1985-86.

STREAKING FROM THE LINE
Entering Sunday's game, Cahill has hit her last 14 free throws over a span of four games. Her streak began on Jan. 10 at Michigan and she extended it on Monday with a 7-for-7 performance against Penn State. GOOD FROM THE FIELD
Shooting 50 percent or better in nine games this season, Indiana continues to be one of the leaders in field goal percentage. Their overall mark of 47.8 percent ranks seventh in the NCAA and second in the Big Ten. IU returned back to the 50 percent or better field goal percentage on Jan. 19 as it shot 50 percent in the win over Purdue.

She needs 138 points to reach Shirley Bryant's 1,503 career points to move into the top 10 of all-time scoring.

IU Women’s Basketball Wins At Wisconsin, 78-54; Moren Picks Up 250th Career Victory

MADISON, Wisc. – Another dominant fourth quarter led the Indiana Women's Basketball team to a win inside Kohl Center on Sunday afternoon with a 78-54 rout of the Wisconsin Badgers. With the win, IU picks up its first victory in Madison since 2009.

Junior guard Tyra Buss led the Hoosiers with 19 points and three assists while senior guard Alexis Gassion followed with 16 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Four Hoosiers scored in double figures in the win, as senior center Jenn Anderson secured her fifth-straight double figure scoring game with 14 points by going 7-for-8 from the floor and added five boards. Junior forward Amanda Cahill also dropped 11 points and finished with nine rebounds.

Head coach Teri Moren also hit a career milestone in the victory, picking up her 250th career win as a head coach – which spans 14 seasons and the last three at Indiana.

The Hoosiers (15-6, 5-3 B1G) shot 48.1 percent from the floor on the afternoon as it also added a 74.2 percent clip from the free throw line – going 23-for-31 from the line. They also outrebounded the home team, 31-28, and added 12 assists and picked up seven steals.

UW came out and took an early 6-2 lead before IU could tie things up on a Gassion jumper on the elbow with 6:38 to play. Back-to-back threes by Buss sparked a 12-1 run over the course of the next two and a half minutes as Indiana took a 14-7 lead with 2:25 remaining. IU would close the quarter with layups from Buss and Cahill to take a 20-10 advantage

Wisconsin (5-16, 0-8 B1G) would control much of the tempo in the second quarter, as it would cut the lead down to five, 26-21, with 5:07 remaining before the half. IU would increase its lead back to seven on multiple occasions in the quarter, before settling with a 35-29 halftime lead.

The Badgers came out on fire in the third quarter, tying things up just two and a half minutes into play as the score would change hands five time and feature two ties throughout. UW wouldn't go up more than three in the frame but as Cahill's pair at the line with 3:28 to play would mark the final time IU would take back the lead to make it 48-47. Buss would end the quarter on positive note, as she sank a buzzer beater layup on the left side, giving Indiana a 57-51 lead.

Indiana dominated the final ten minutes of play, extending its streak from the third quarter as it used a 12-0 run to propel itself in front of the Badgers with 7:06 remaining. Playing in the bonus for much of the final quarter, IU went 13-for-18 from the line and outscored UW, 21-3, in the final quarter as it also earned its largest win over the Badgers since 2008.

IU women's basketball pulls away for win
by Josh Eastern

The final score of IU's 78-54 win against Wisconsin wasn't indicative of how close the game was.

On paper the Hoosiers should have had an easy time with the Badgers, who sit in last place and are winless in the Big Ten, on Sunday, even with the game being played in Madison, Wisconsin.

That, however, was hardly the case. The Hoosiers led for more than 30 minutes, but failed to pull away until the fourth quarter when they were finally able to assert their will.

Junior guard Tyra Buss led the Hoosiers with a game-high 19 points, and IU tallied its third consecutive win and its first in the Kohl Center since 2009.

“Every game is difficult ,and we realize that,” IU assistant coach Glenn Box said on the postgame show on WHCC 105.1 FM. “Yes, they were winless coming in, but we knew they had some fight. We knew they were going to come out and compete.”

The Badgers got out to an early lead, but the Hoosiers were able to combat that with a 12-1 run to take control of things. Buss had eight points in the first quarter but didn’t score for the rest of the half. IU took a 10-point lead into the second quarter when Wisconsin started to heat up from the field.

The Hoosiers went through a 1-of-5 stretch in the second quarter that was matched by a 5-of-6 mark from the Badgers. IU entered halftime with just a six-point lead.

“They played pretty well after the initial start of the first half,” Box said of Wisconsin. “Second half we grinded them down a little bit. We had some smart defensive plays that triggered some things for us that certainly helped.”

The Hoosiers got a balanced scoring effort Sunday. Junior forward Amanda Cahill, Buss, senior guard Alexis Gassion and senior forward Jenn Anderson all tallied double-digit scoring performances. The bench, on the other hand, had a tough day from the field. They contributed just six points and made just one basket before the last two minutes of the fourth quarter.

In the end, IU finished shooting 48 percent from the field. From behind the arc, the Hoosiers shot just 18 percent. Wisconsin went more than five minutes without scoring in the fourth quarter, and the Hoosiers outscored the Badgers 21-3 in the final 10 minutes.

“Thank goodness we responded,” IU Coach Teri Moren said after the game. “At that point you just rely on your veterans to go make plays and then to dig down defensively and I thought we did a much better job in the fourth of defending better.”

The road now gets a bit tougher for IU. Its next matchup is Thursday in East Lansing, Michigan, against Michigan State. The Hoosiers are now 5-3 in the Big Ten, and with the Spartans sitting at 4-4 in conference play. It will be a prime opportunity for IU to separate itself from the middle of the standings.

“We know that they are very, very good,” Box said of Michigan State. “They are led by a very good guard, and they have so much talent. They are just a good team. We know that, and we’ll be prepared.”
