Hall of Famer
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Indiana fell on the road at Penn State on Thursday night, 79-75. Four Hoosiers scored in double figures led by Alexis Gassion's 18 points.

Indiana (12-6, 2-5) trailed by as many as 13 in the second half before pulling within two points late in the game before Penn State held on.

With Indiana leading, 19-15, Penn State (4-15, 1-7) went on a 7-0 run to take a 22-19 lead at the 8:20 mark of the first half.

Jess Walter stopped the momentum momentarily with her second 3-point field goal of the half to tie the game. Walter would go on to score nine first-half points.

PSU continued to string together offense, scoring the next six points and totalling a 13-3 run, to take a 28-22 lead. The Hoosiers later pulled within one point in the final minutes of the half, but the Lady Lions would take a 36-29 advantage into the locker room.

In the second half, IU tried chipped away at the Penn State lead, twice getting within four points in the early going. But PSU kept withstanding the Hoosiers as a Lady Lion 3-pointer and jump shot extended the advantage to nine. Penn State then took a 55-44 advantage after a pair of technical foul free throws with 12:35 remaining.

Indiana fired back with a free throw from Gassion followed by a fast-break layup and later a 3-point field goal from McBride to cut the lead to 55-50.

Penn State kept staying at arm's length building its lead back to 10 points, 63-53, thanks in part to second chance opportunities on the offensive glass.

The Hoosiers pulled within seven points, but a 6-0 PSU surge put the Lady Lions in front by 13, 71-58, with 5:46 remaining.

IU kept coming, taking advantage of being in the bonus with an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to five, 71-66, with 4:07 to go. The Hoosiers hit 8-of-8 free throws during the run.

PSU stretched the lead back to 73-66 before a McBride free throw and three more makes from the line for Gassion made it a 73-70 score with 1:25 to go. The Lady Lions then hit a jumper before McBride nailed a 3-point field goal to cut the lead to two at 75-73 with 47 seconds to go.

That was as close as the Hoosiers would get as Penn State held on for the win.

The Lady Lions dominated the glass as they pulled down 23 offensive boards and scored 42 points in the paint.

Other double-digit scorers for Indiana included Walter (14), McBride (13) and Tyra Buss (10). Gassion added nine rebounds to her point total as she went 16-of-18 from the free throw line.

The Hoosiers will next host No. 7/6 Maryland on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 3 p.m. ET in Assembly Hall.
