IU had a really sluggish first half against 13-seed Rutgers which IU didn't play in the regular season and IU held a 32-26 lead at the half. It looked like IU was going to create some separation near the end of the half and went up by 10 points, but Rutgers finished the half on a mini 4-0 run. Gulbe picked up her third foul with one minute left in the half and picked up her fourth foul early in the 3rd period sending her to the bench, so she spent much of the 2nd half on the bench and eventually fouled out with under 4 minutes left in the game. Gulbe who is an 82 pct FT shooter was also 2-6 from the line, so she was certainly having an off game. IU outscored Rutgers 16-11 in the 3rd to take an 11-point lead into the 4th. Holmes is starting to look more like herself before the injury. Gulbe's game was off, but Patberg had an outstanding game shooting the ball. Cardano-Hillary had an excellent 2nd half and was a thorn in Rutgers' side with her defense. With IU up 16, Rutgers went on an 8-0 run to pull within 8 at 57-49 before Berger ended the run with a basket. Patberg's was hot behind the arc and was 5 of 7 there and had a game-high 19 points. Berger's scoring picked up in the 2nd half and she had 17 points. IU faces Maryland tomorrow afternoon in Friday's second game.
