IU women vs UConn today at 2 on ESPN

The ladies are fun to watch.
Huge challenge today. UConn has 5 guys over 6’4”.
To win we need usual stuff. Low turn overs, good perimeter shooting and successful trips to the FT line.
Good luck guys.

UConn has been in a slump now for a couple of seasons, in part due to injuries. Having said that in their last game they shut out their opponent in the third quarter.

Hoosiers off to a good start.

Missed the first couple minutes. Where's Mac?

Gonna be a transition year, imo. Losing Patberg, Gulbe, and C-H. And we only have 1 recruit. Lost the top 3 IN HS girls to UConn, MD, and Iowa, IIRC.
It will be a transition year, but they have three players signed. Moren has also been successful in the transfer portal.

WBB class

I think we have 3 recruits, a forward from Minnesota, a guard from Wisconsin that is a good 100 runner as was Tyra so that has me hopeful, and a kid from Israel that was considered the 2nd best recruit from the "European" zone.

You are right. I meant 1 player in the top 100.
I don’t understand the lack of success recruiting Indiana players. I know it’s hard to recruit against someone like UConn, but Michigan has several Indiana players and Purdue has been very successful recruiting the state despite their mediocre results the past few years. Two of the top instate players are committed to Maryland.

Until this group of players, Purdue has had far more success. I suspect for high school coaches, they think Purdue or other programs. Top recruits have never looked to IU and that mentality is slow to change. I was hoping Allen was going to start that change but she only stayed the one year.

I also wonder if this "blue collar work harder than everyone else" theme they have turns off some blue chip players.

But it seems they need to do better in Indiana for long term success.

Well, I can tell you she did Jorie Allen wrong and ost a lot of respect with coaches because of that.

How was she done wrong?

Mainly that late in the season the coaches stopped meeting with her regularly as they were doing. They stopped spending time with her with coaching and instruction. And when she decided to transfer, they had nothing to do to her, nothing to say to her, never helped in the process or find the right fit for her or make any calls.

I understand it's a cut throat business, but at 18/19, don't isolate a player just because she is not as good as you thought. And if she wasn't that good, why did Moren play her all 32 games and an avg of 10/min a game in the BT games?

It was very strange way to treat a Miss Basketball whose father is a coach of a top program and has connections all over the state.

Not to mention that Moren never called the family after Curt Miller left to talk to Jennie Allen, an IU recruit. Nobody called them. They had to call IU to learn what was going on. Jennie ended up at MSU.

Maybe saying she was wronged wasn't the right language, but it was an odd experience for the Allen family.

Hell, no one knew what was going on when Miller bailed. Moren was hired in the fall with barely enough time to pack her bag and get to Bloomington. I'm sure there were a lot of loose ends that never got tied up, which a teenager is going to naturally take personally.

Sure. But nobody called. Nobody in the AD. I would think someone could call.

In my business, during the pandemic and the markers were crashing 1000 points a day, I and my two assistants called all 500+ of my clients within a week, including the weekend.

So I would think IU could call a few recruits within a week. No?

Neither did Knight, but he still found a way to land top talent. He demanded defense but still found a way to play Alford.

Berger and Patburg were very highly rated, as was Penn. 2 are now gone and we have had our best years ever. But now they have to be replaced and not many top 50 appear headed or even considering IU. Even with the players we are getting we will be far better than the days I sat in the stands with 800 other people wondering what it would be like to go to the NCAAs. But if we want to routinely be playing for Elite Eights, and better, we need the talent levels of Ali and Grace.

Mak was rated the #53 player in the country.
Chloe Moore McNeil was 2x Miss Basketball in TN
Lexus Bargresser is the #68 player and a 4 star
The Euros can be a crapshoot, but Garzon is a 4 star.
Lily Meister is a top 100 recruit.
The Providence transfer certainly seems like a nice addition at the 4 spot.

I'm not as worried about the future as I was at the beginning of the season. Berger staying makes a big difference. And I trust we'll add at least one or two more in the portal.

Who is the transfer from Providence?

I think we are about #4 in the Big Ten next year. Iowa will be the best, then Maryland, Michigan, us. A good year and we might move ahead of Michigan.

And who knows, a good portal could be there to move us up more. I know every fan base in the country is dreaming of that Princeton player, but I fear her DC roots put her in Maryland. We need offense, we really push the shot clock too often and struggle outside.

And our defensive rebounding in the final two games really went south and I am not sure why. Princeton and UConn both had extended offensive trips.
