The Gophers are a much-improved team from last season, and they have a new coach. They are 13-3 and 3-2 in the B1G. Minnesota is considered a bubble team by the bracketologists so beating IU on the road would be big for them. Obviously, IU wants to get back on-track after the Iowa debacle, especially in the 2nd half of that game. IU is averaging 15 turnovers a game and that has been a problem area, especially of late. Minnesota is led by 6-0 soph g Mara Braun who is averaging 19.7 ppg, and all five starters average in double figures.
1st period:
The Gophers started the scoring with 6'5 C Hart getting two baskets and Parrish knocking down a 3-ball for a 4-3 lead for the Gophers. Garzon was called for an early offensive foul for a turnover. Both teams had knocked down two 3s and the score was tied at 10-all nearing the midway mark. Minnesota was averaging 7 3's per game and they were already 3 for 3 behind the arc with the Gophers up 13-12 at an official's timeout with 4:10 mark and Holmes at the line to try and complete an old-fashion three-point play. It was 13-13 out of the timeout.
Back-to-back buckets by Holmes gave IU a 17-13 lead with 2:30 left. Scalia knocked down a 3 to give IU a 7-point lead at 20-13.
End of 1st: IU 23 Minn 18
Minnesota was 4 for 4 behind the arc while Parrish was 3 for 4 from behind the arc. IU had just two turnovers in the period which is an improvement from recent games. The Gophers had five turnovers.
2nd period:
The Gophers opened the scoring in the period with a bucket after a turnover by IU to make it 23-20. It was IU 28-22 at the 7:10 mark of the period. Minnesota hit another 3-ball and they were 5 for 5 from there and the score was at 33-25, IU's biggest lead, after a Scalia 3-ball with 6 minutes left in the period.
After a bucket by Holmes to make it 35-25 IU, the Gophers called a timeout with 4:59 left. A 3-ball by Scalia and then a 2-pointer by her gave IU a fifteen-point lead at 42-27 and another Gopher timeout. Scalia then torched the Gophers with another 3 and it was 45-27 with just over two minutes left in the period.
IU was on a 19-2 run before the Gophers broke the run and the score at 47-29 IU with under one minute left and that would be the halftime score.

Holmes and Scalia had 17 points apiece at the half. IU was 61.3 pct from the field and 46.7 on 3s. IU was 2-3 at the line. IU had 6 turnovers to 11 turnovers for the Gophers. Garzon was the only player for IU with multiple fouls at two.
Mara Braun, the Gophers leading scorer at 19.7, was scoreless at the half and she was limited to just two shots from the field. The Gophers were 44 pct from the field and 83.3 pct on 3s on 5 of 6 shooting. They were 2 of 4 at the line. Minn had no one with more than one foul.
3rd period:
IU opened the period with a bucket Holmes to push the lead up to 49-29. The Gophers got four straight points at the line to put the lead at 49-33 IU. Garzon picked up her 3rd foul after Parrish had hit a 3-ball with the score at 54-35 IU.
Minnesota got a bucket off of an airball by the Gophers with the lead down to 54-39 for IU. Another bucket by the Gophers cut the lead to 13 at the 5:05 mark. After one of two FTs by Meister, it was 55-41 IU at a TV timeout with 4:47 left and IU with the ball.
Bargesser, who has been poor at the line this season, missed two FTs, while the Gophers hit two FTs to cut the lead to 57-45 at under three minutes. As Scalia 3-ball put the lead back up to 60-45.

IU recovered some at the end of the period after the Gophers had cut the lead to 12 points at one time. Both Garzon and Scalia entered the 4th period with three fouls apiece. The Gophers have two players with two fouls.
4th period:
The Gophers got a bucket to start the period and Garzon picked up her 4th foul. After the Gophers opened the period on a 4-0 run, Parrish hit a three-ball to make it 67-51. After being held scoreless in the first half, Braun had started to heat up and the lead was at 67-55 after an 8-3 start to the period by the Gophers with 6:48 left. Coach Moren called a timeout at this point. Braun had 12 points in the half at this point.
After the timeout, Moore-McNeil hit two FTs and a bucket by Scalia pushed the lead back up to 16. An old-fashion three by Holmes on an assist by Scalia pushed the lead up to 74-55, but the Gophers hit a three to put the lead at 74-58 at a TV timeout at 4:45 left in the game.
Garzon reentered the game with her four fouls. It was 78-60 IU with under three minutes left. With 1:38 left, Moren emptied the bench.
