The game got off to a slow start with both teams hitting a couple of FTs to make it 2-2 and it stayed that way for a while before they started connecting from the field. IU led at the end of the 1st period 18-13. Multiple times during the 2nd period, IU had a lead of 9 points but couldn't push it up into the double digits as Maryland scored multiple times in the 1st half on put backs off of offensive rebounds. IU was up 34-25 at the half. Of the Terps 21 first half rebounds, 9 were on the offensive boards. Holmes had her best half since returning from injury and was 4 of 5 from the field while scoring 10 points. IU's scoring was pretty balanced with the scoring spread out as was the case with the Terps. Neither team could connect on the 3-ball with IU going 0-3 from there while the Terps were 0-6. No one had more than one foul for IU in the first half. In the 3rd, IU had the lead up to 10 points before MD started chipping away and had the lead down to three points before Berger stole the ball and scored on a layup just before the buzzer to put IU up 44-39 at the end of the period. Maryland continued to score off missed shots in the 3rd, something they did in the first half as they had 11 offensive rebounds on the game at the end of the 3rd. IU built the lead up to 9 early in the 4th on a 3 ball, the first made 3 by either team, but the Terps cut into the lead again getting it down to 5. It was 54-49 with 1:20 left on the clock and MD started fouling immediately and IU put the game away at the foul line. IU survived committing 18 turnovers. MD was 0-11 on 3s and most of their game was scoring around the basket. This game may have put IU over as far as hosting opening round games in the NCAAs. IU faces OSU in the semifinals, a team they beat by double-digits in Columbus in their only game of the regular season with them.
