1st period:
IU was a 40.5-point favorite over the 2-6 Hatters. Stetson took an early 5-2 lead with two offensive rebounds leading to scores including a 3-pointer. IU got their first lead of the game at 6-5 on a steal and bucket. At a TV timeout with 4:44 remaining in the period, IU was up 13-7. Stetson already had four o-boards on the game at this point. Back-to-back threes by Moore-McNeil and Garzon started to break open the game at 19-9 and a timeout by the Hatters at 1:55.
End of 1st: IU 24 Stetson 9
After a slow start to the game, IU went on a 17-2 run over the last six minutes of the period to take a commanding lead.
2nd period:
IU went on a 6-0 run to start the period and the Hatters called another timeout with 7:37 left and IU up 30-9. Incredibly, of the 13 boards that Stetson has at this point in the game, 10 are o-boards. IU was substituting freely at this point in the game. It was 35-13 at the 4:14 mark of the period.
Half: IU 41 Stetson 20
IU substituted freely throughout the first half with 10 players seeing the floor. Holmes and Garzon led IU with 9 points apiece. IU shot 64 pct from the field and 33.3 pct on 3s. They were 66.7 at the line on 6 of 9 shooting. IU had 21 rebs with one o-board, but IU's high shooting percentage didn't give many chances of o-boards. IU already had 12 assists and they had 6 turnovers. Sandvik was the only IU player with multiple fouls with two.
Stetson was 21.1 pct from the field and 14.5 on 3s, and 2 of 6 at the line. They had 19 rebounds with 11 o-boards, but when you shoot 21.2 pct from the field, you are going to get plenty of chances for offensive rebounds. The Hatters had one starter with two fouls at the half.
3rd period:
It was a slow start to the 3rd for IU with Stetson starting out the period with a small run of 4-0. Stetson got another three o-boards to start the period. IU was 0 for 5 during the period on 3s midway through the period. At a TV timeout at 4: 34, IU was 0 for 8 from the field in the period and their scoring limited to two FTs. With the big lead at the half, they seemed to lose their focus and intensity. IU got their first basket of the period at the 4:04 mark with a bucket by Garzon on a drive. Back-to-back 3s by Garzon and Scalia, and an old fashion three-point play by Bargesser suddenly put the lead up to 54-24.
End of 3rd: IU 58 Stetson 29
IU got off to a really slow start in the period but caught fire over the end of it to extend the lead.
4th period:
IU started the period on a 4-0 run to force a Stetson timeout at the 8:37 mark and this would be a period of mop up action and the subs seeing plenty of minutes on the floor. Stetson was shooting 19 pct from the floor at the point in the game. IU pulled the starters at the 6:26 mark. It was 72-33 IU at the last media timeout at 3:58. Both teams were cold from the field over the last five minutes of the game and IU didn't score over the last 5:30 minutes of the game which really brought down the shooting percentages.
Final: IU 72 Stetson 34
