1st Period:
Both teams turned the ball over early on with IU getting balanced scoring and the U-M getting almost all of their scoring from g Laila Phelia as IU grabbed an early 16-10 lead as Parrish hit an early 3-pointer. Garzon and Scalia hit on 3-pointers to push the lead up to 22-14 with almost all of the Wolverines scoring coming near the basket as IU pushed the lead up to 26-16 at the end of the period. Holmes had 9 points and Garzon had 7 points in the period. IU turned the ball over four times while U-M turned it over five times with one of IU's turnovers being an offensive foul on Berger. IU outrebounded U-M, 12 to 3.
2nd Period:
IU had the lead cut to four points as Michigan hit on two 3-pointers and Berger picked up her 2nd foul with IU up 34-27. IU had a lead of 7 at 36-29 at a TV timeout with 4:46 left in the half. Michigan hit another 3 and they were 3 for 3 from there in the period after not attempting one in the 1st. Scalia hit her 2nd three to push IU's lead up to nine points and IU would take a 12 point lead on a layup by Holmes before the period ended with IU up 48-38.
Half - IU 48 - U-M 38: Holmes had 15 points at the half while Scalia, who had been in a shooting slump, had 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting and she was 2 for 4 behind the arc. Moore-McNeil was also in a slump shooting the 3-ball but she hit on one of two behind the arc. IU was 3 of 6 at the line while U=M, who leads the B1G in FT shooting was 7 of 8. IU outrebounded the Wolverines, 21-12, and had 8 offensive boards to 2 for U-M. As far as fouls, Holmes and Berger picked up two fouls apiece while the Wolverines had their two starting forwards with 2 fouls apiece and those were the only players with multiple fouls.
3rd Period:
Holmes was called for highly questionable offensive foul early in the period for her 3rd foul, but IU pushed the lead up to 56-42 with Garzon and Parrish both knocking down 3s. Moren pulled Holmes at just over the 7-minute mark. Foul shooting kept the Wolverines from getting buried in this game as they were 15-16 from there at the under 5-minute mark of the period and were 8 for 8 at line in this period and keep getting to the line. Scalia hit another three at 3:36 of the period to give IU a 17-point lead, but Michigan would make it to the line again for two more points. Michigan would get the lead down to 12 points under the 2-minute mark. IU would have a 12-point lead at 68-56 at the end of the period with the FT shooting difference huge in this game as U-M is 17-18 on the game at this point while IU is 6 of 10 and and 10 of Michigan's 18 points came at the line in the period. Holmes and Berger had 3 fouls apiece going into the 4th.
4th Period:
Michigan started the period with a basket and then Parrish would hit a 3 as IU had a 13-point lead, Michigan then hit a deep three and got an old fashion three point play off a turnover by IU and the lead dropped to 7 points at 71-64. Two FTs by Meister and a basket by Berger put the lead back up to 11 points. IU still had a lead of 11 with just over five mintues left but Michigan would score 5 straight points to pull within 6 points. IU would push the lead back up to 10 on two straight buckets by Berger with the score at 81-71 at a TV timeout with 3:34 left in the game. With just over one minute left in the game, Michigan scored on a basket after an IU turnover and then hit a three to cut the lead to 6 points with under 40 seconds left. IU finished the game out with a parade to the FT line in the closing seconds. IU had balanced scoring in the game with Holmes having her usual big game with 25 points. IU had another game of shooting over 50 pct (51.6 pct) from the field on an opponent's floor. When you shoot it like that on the road, good things usually happen. IU moves into a tie for the B1G lead with Iowa and OSU with a big game coming up on Thurs. at AH against OSU.
