Should be a fun game. Homecoming for us. I think it's pretty clear that this will be the best offense we've seen yet this year by far, but also probably the best defense y'all have seen by a good margin. I saw on ESPN the NumberFire prediction is around 33-28 Indiana. Seems like a decent prediction based on what we've seen from both teams this season.
Our QB, Wolford, hurt his ankle against Syracuse and then aggravated it first drive against Army and went out. Our true freshman backup, Kendall Hinton, came in and looked pretty good. He's a good runner and very quick, but definitely does not have the accuracy of Wolford or the grasp of the offense. Most of the WFU fanbase is hoping Wolford is ready to go, though I imagine Coach Clawson will keep this decision under wraps for this week to try to make y'all have to prepare for either guy.
The game for us will likely depend on our line play. We start two freshmen at tackle and our starting center, another freshman, is suspended until next week. We need to open holes for the running game and, more importantly, protect whoever is under center. We've had a lot of trouble with both of those things this season. Our skill guys are good, but incredibly young. We will probably start a true freshman RB, true freshman slot receiver, and a RS Fr wide out. Lots of freshmen in the two-deep on both sides of the ball.
We also need our defensive line to start getting some penetration. Our best pass rushing DE by far is out with a concussion and our other guys are good in run support but just can't get after the QB.We have a strong group of safeties and possibly the best linebackers in the ACC, but our corners are new and got torched a couple times against Syracuse, which is worrisome against your QB. Howard looks like a heck of a RB and I'm hoping we can contain him a little bit as well.
I'll add that I have no problem with your coach's comments. It was at an alumni event, not a press conference. I wouldn't think jamesda has a problem with it either, just pointing out that it will probably be brought up in the locker room for some extra motivation this week.
Hoping for a competitive, injury-free game.
Go Deacs!
