Line on game ? Anyone know ? Papers here in FL show it as "off"--My guess is that medical problems for Wake have them guessing as to who will and who won't play on Sat--and what the spread should be either way--am sure IU will be favored--by how much ? That is question--great feeling for Hoosiers

This is a road game which IU surprisingly played ok last year (ala Mizzou). Win here and we're 4-0 with a nationally televised game on ABC/ESPN2 vs. the Buckeyes who didn't look so hot last week. The good thing about winning all of these close is that our team is learning to play an entire game and we also can win while also looking like chumps. ha Meaning, OSU isn't going to see a 4-0 Indiana team that has squeaked out wins against inferior opponents and still expect too much of a fight. Some turnovers and timely plays and crazier things have happened............right? Maybe not.

checked the game they lost to Syracuse--were up at half--zero in second--S wins it--
Wake, no running game--except for frosh QB, Hinton--if he plays--Wolford hurt in game against Army--not sure if he plays against IU--he is not bad--O line not BIG caliber--should be able to get to him--not a runner
should be a game IU wins--and big--Both Howard and Redding pile up numbers--will be on ACC TV station--got to watch !! Should be 5 straight--when was last time for that ?

You haven't played a D like ours yet. Plus your coach gave us some nice bulletin board material.

That is really unlike Wilson. Like the article mentioned it was an off the cuff remark at a glorified pep rally. Recently he has been talking that is going to be a big challenge. I really don't know what to expect. I watched a little of the Syracuse game but not enough to get a good sense of Wake's team.

Oh for God's sake. We may very well lose, but don't come over here with the "D like ours" crap. We've pretty much seen it all. You aren't shutting us down.

Also, if his comment seriously offends you, then I really have no worries about losing this game. He's from NC, and wants to go home and win a game. That fiend!

Go get'em RBB89....for God sakes its football season. Trash talking should be left to the blogs but this happens to every program once in a while. Just surprised it happen at IU, only because we don't have much experience at winning enough to run around and thumping our collective chests. But like I said it's football season and after a three game win streak with are a little full of ourselves. Go for Coach....just back it up.

That may be, but Wake hasn't played against an offense like IU's yet either. And I would hope the head football coach for IU would say what he did at an alumni event. Was he supposed to say he hoped the team could be competitive? Good for Wilson. Bulletin board material is for the normally unprepared.

Also, in the context, he was making a joke about his religious affiliation.

Should be a fun game. Homecoming for us. I think it's pretty clear that this will be the best offense we've seen yet this year by far, but also probably the best defense y'all have seen by a good margin. I saw on ESPN the NumberFire prediction is around 33-28 Indiana. Seems like a decent prediction based on what we've seen from both teams this season.

Our QB, Wolford, hurt his ankle against Syracuse and then aggravated it first drive against Army and went out. Our true freshman backup, Kendall Hinton, came in and looked pretty good. He's a good runner and very quick, but definitely does not have the accuracy of Wolford or the grasp of the offense. Most of the WFU fanbase is hoping Wolford is ready to go, though I imagine Coach Clawson will keep this decision under wraps for this week to try to make y'all have to prepare for either guy.

The game for us will likely depend on our line play. We start two freshmen at tackle and our starting center, another freshman, is suspended until next week. We need to open holes for the running game and, more importantly, protect whoever is under center. We've had a lot of trouble with both of those things this season. Our skill guys are good, but incredibly young. We will probably start a true freshman RB, true freshman slot receiver, and a RS Fr wide out. Lots of freshmen in the two-deep on both sides of the ball.

We also need our defensive line to start getting some penetration. Our best pass rushing DE by far is out with a concussion and our other guys are good in run support but just can't get after the QB.We have a strong group of safeties and possibly the best linebackers in the ACC, but our corners are new and got torched a couple times against Syracuse, which is worrisome against your QB. Howard looks like a heck of a RB and I'm hoping we can contain him a little bit as well.

I'll add that I have no problem with your coach's comments. It was at an alumni event, not a press conference. I wouldn't think jamesda has a problem with it either, just pointing out that it will probably be brought up in the locker room for some extra motivation this week.

Hoping for a competitive, injury-free game.

Go Deacs!

By most metrics FIU and Wake have very similar caliber D's... Not as sure on O but I assume Wake's is better. S&P+ has Wake D ranked 76, FIU's 80.

We're hurt in those metrics by a couple big plays. We allowed a 54-yard pass and an 89-yard pass against Syracuse. One on one coverage both times with one guy getting beat and one missing a tackle.

We right now rank 9th in the country in yards allowed with about 254. It would obviously be dumb to discount those plays as they clearly point to a weakness in our D, but without those plays we're allowing 207 a game, good for 4th. We hope adjustments have been made to keep our corners out of those spots. We also are only allowing opponents to convert on 7/36 3rd downs (19%). I think we will be more up to the task than FIU.

Obviously these numbers are somewhat skewed due to quality of competition, but our offense also looked good when healthy, and our drives are somewhat slow and methodical, also affecting the defensive YPG rankings. Hopefully we can keep your O off the field for much of the game.

Thanks for the objective report and updates on the Wake roster.....looking forward to being at the game. The last Wake game I attended was in 2010 against Clemson when my son was looking at schools (rooted for Wake that game). It's a nice, comfortable atmosphere. Hopefully the rain stays away.

I'm actually more worried about Hinton than Wolford, running QBs have a tendency to decimate IU. Particularly with a weak Oline, I think IU could get after a pocket passer a lot easier than they will be able to with a mobile guy.

Maybe but with a young secondary and speedy LB'ers, I feel like a running QB lacking great passing instincts will be to our benefit.

I think a lot of the stats are skewed more by the style of competition rather than the quality. Its hard to accumulate yards and convert 3rd downs in run heavy offenses. Syracuse and Army are passing the ball on 28% and 17% of plays. Plus offenses that run focused eat up a lot of clock and limit possessions.

Taking out the IU game from FIU's stats, they'd be allowing just 252 yards per game. Plus you guysYou guys could be better than FIU defensively, but I'd say at most only slightly.

Valid points. Really too early in the season to put too much stock in stats anyway, especially since so many teams have FCS opponents accounting for 1/3 of numbers. But pure eye test, our D looks good so far, and your offense looks very good.

I can't link it from work, but I saw this morning was Wake at -4.
Speedy Linebackers? Faster than the past maybe, but speedy? Not so much.
That certainly an area we need to get a lot faster. Scales helps there, but we tend to blitz Simmons/Oliver a lot and they just aren't fast enough to really force the QB into mistakes.

Wolford is not a pocket passer by any means. He has the wheels to run as well as he has broke a 74yd td this year and got hurt sliding after scrambling for a first. He is just as fast as Hinton.

Interesting stat - Wake is 1 of only 2 teams in FBS yet to force a turnover this season

Thanks for the clarification james, the articles I saw made it seem like he was.

A pocket passer just threw for 7000 yards against us Saturday.

I meant that Wolford was not quite as fast as Hinton, but still not a pocket passer. If Wolford can't go Hinton's back up would be 4* ex SMU commit Kyle Kearns a true freshman with a cannon and a pure pocket passer.
