I can admit Brohm had a good first year out of the gates, especially after what he was following, and they won Bucket & bowl game too. But I'm not ready to bronze him yet or say they've somehow left IU in the dust. Had IU won bucket game at PU last year, the whole narrative would have been very different, showing just what one game meant for them & their image.

Here's a review of IU & PU schedules for upcoming season that show's why it's hard to repeat:

Very winnable games for IU: FIU, UVA, Ball St, @Rutgers, MD (5)
Toss up to Winnable for IU: IA, @Minn, PU (3)
Stretch games, IU not favored: MSU, @OSU, PSU, @UM (4)

Very winnable games for PU: Eastern MI, Mizzou, Boston College, @ILL (4)
Toss up to Winnable for PU: Northwestern, IA,@Minn, @IU (4)
Stretch games, PU not favored: @Neb, OSU, @MSU, WI (4)

I like IU's "toss up to winnable" game odds better than PU. And of the winnable games for PU, not sure how easy Mizzou & BC will be even at home. Will be interesting to see how BOTH teams do hosting IA and at Minnesota - a pretty accurate barometer to judge how they stack up.

IU isn't guaranteed anything either, but I see an easier path to 6 games for IU than for PU. And if PU does NOT go bowling, then will "all of those coaching offers" be rolling in after year 2?

Bullish for the Hoosiers and definitely need a nice W in the Bucket game to cap off a great year!

I remember someone questioning me last year after Purdue beat IU when I stated how huge that one game was for both programs. Even though IU won four straight, it's a what have you done for me lately world. And it still upsets me when I think about how much more ready to play Purdue was last year in the bucket game. IU should have won that game by a couple of touchdowns. This year's bucket game may be even more important for the two programs and their respective trajectories.

Brohm did a very good job at W Kentucky and gave IU a tough game when Wilson was our coach. He and his staff did a very good job changing Purdue but had to bring in 5 grad transfers to turn them around, many ignore this. Coach Allen and staff are doing a very good job despite the criticism from people. How good each staff will do will based on year 3 when they have their own players filling the team. I hope both staffs do a great job and the bucket game becomes a big national game. I love the job coach Allen is doing and hope he can achieve what he is trying to do to get IU into the championship talk in the B1G.

Rarely has a bucket game not been a challenge almost regardless of record for either team. And yes, at IU, with an IU team that I think will have a better year than PU, I do think that game is at least as challenging for PU to win on the road than either Mizzou or BC at home. Now if you are saying those two games at home (as well as NU?) are tough games for PU, I do agree. And if they were losses, you don't think IU, who might be already at 6 wins and chance to go to a higher bowl, better record and win Bucket game won't be pumped? And if PU is at 4 wins, can't go bowling, they won't have some wind at their faces? I do.

Both teams will play hard for the bucket. My point is PU has tough schedule this year and if they don't get to 6 game bowl eligible, and IU does, could see the "media momentum" shift back to Allen & IU vs. Brohm & PU. Like it or not, that's a possibility this year.

What happened to the PU poster I was replying to who thought IU game "so much easier" than Mizzou or BC? That's who this post was intended to be replying to FYI.

But Purdue fans think their 1 win over us last year means that Allen cant coach and Brohm is the next Urban Meyer.

Well, to the victor go the spoils. It stinks taking it on the chin and having to listen to them chirp, but that's the position we put ourselves in.

Personally, I think Tom Allen should wear a Purdue hat everyday until he takes the Bucket back. Until that day, Brohm controls the narrative and the rivalry.

I thinking the Purdue bashing would be through the roof here if IU won the Bucket game and a bowl game. Onward to FIU.

What you are conveying is fine and dandy, but Purdue showed they could win as underdogs last year, while we couldn't. They won 3 games as such, all away from home (Missouri, Iowa and Arizona). Let's also not forget they beat four bowls teams to our one. The series going forward will be as competitive as it ever has been, which is fine by me.

Brohm did have the Boilers ready to play last year in the bucket game. And, for some unexplainable reason, Coach Allen did not do the same with the Hoosiers. So, if the shoe fits...
