Coincidentally being Michigan fans, my son and I are visiting IU on Saturday January 26th. He is interested in Journalism and Communications and knows others who have attended for the same reason.

Of course the UM basketball game is the day before and I am wondering if there is a ticket scalping option outside the arena? I know in today's day and age of stubhub, vivid, etc. on site scalping has waned a bit but I am looking for a last minute option because the prices for even nosebleeds online right now are insane.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Scalping is allowed on the south side of 17th street (opposite side of the street from Assembly Hall)

If you are going primarily for the experience of seeing a game in AH you can probably do ok with scalpers. If you want decent seats where you can really see the action, you are probably going to have to bite the bullet and pay up. It's a big game and there are a lot of shi++y seats in Assembly Hall. If I am looking for just a single ticket, I seem to do better talking to the scalpers. When I take the wife I always use stubhub unless I have a direct connection. But I'm particular about where I sit and stubhub seems to have much better options if I need a pair together. For a conference game, tickets are rarely at bargain prices.

Thanks. Helpful so far. I will either bite the bullet because we will already be in Bloomington anyway or go watch at Nicks. Thank you!!

Just curious since I know that IU has a great school of journalism, where else is your son looking. I am not versed on other schools.

Balcony seats get a bad rap and they are high up but if you can get in CC or DD the view is good and you can actually watch the game develop really well. Just not down close to the action for sure.

The upper corners are as bad as advertised. Sat up there 3 rows from the top Steve’s senior year when we played Iowa. Was cool to be part of the great atmosphere, but there was a reason I set the VHS before I left home.

We sat in DD then CC for three years after graduating. they are high but a great view of the floor. Better than the nosebleeds at bankers life or Lucas Oil.

A buddy of mine has season tickets at Lucas Oil right in the middle (section 613, I believe) a little more than halfway up. It actually gives you a pretty good view of the play as it develops, although the hike up to the seats put a strain on my bad knee.

MSU
Central Michigan
Missouri
Arizona State

All different styles of journalism/broadcasting schools but with excellent reputations.

Go to Nick’s AND the game. With tip-off at 6:30 pm, have lunch at Nick’s, then afterwards, walk the historic area of the campus one block east. Your son will fall in love with the traditional, collegiate look of the buildings, brick-lined pathways through the woods, etc. To do otherwise when being so close with your team in town would be a travesty.

No chance. I appreciate all of the opinions on which upper balconies would be worth it. Cheapest stubhubs after fees are around $240 right now. Amazing.

That is the plan, depending on my scratch off lottery tickets I buy this weekend.

Welcome to Indiana Basketball.

policy makes more of a difference than one might think.

before you could no longer upgrade student seats to adult, (Damon's freshman yr), and pre designated student sections, you could get in virtually any game, (including the biggest games in the biggest yrs), for $20 bucks or less, and if willing to work, could work your way down to a couple seats row 10 or lower on the sides, most of the time.

not being able to upgrade killed getting in cheap, and the creation of segregated student sections killed working your way down to good seats for the good games.

I have experienced being in row 40 on the lower level and having lower seats on the balcony. I'll take the balcony every time.

No doubt. The corners of either the Lower level or balcony are bad seats, but the center third of the balcony; while far from the physical court are good seats for watching the plays develop. I go up there once a year and it isn't as bad as people like to say.

That's good because I would never sit in the balcony as compared to any seat in the lower level. In the balcony you can see the plays develop as CS stated but I never feel the emotion that I feel in the lower level.

To each his own.
