IU seeded 16, plays winner of UCONN/Boston U. on Nov. 22 at IU . . .

Pleasantly surprised at a 16 seed, but there was some shuffling of teams after the weekend of play for the conference tourneys. I believe IU got some help with their RPI and seeding due to our tough schedule.

Hoosiers Earn No. 16 Seed in NCAA Tournament

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University men's soccer team earned the No. 16 overall seed in the 2015 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament and will face the winner of UConn/Boston University in a second-round match on Sunday, Nov. 22 in Bloomington.

Game time for Sunday's match is 12:00 p.m. at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth/college students.

The berth for the Hoosiers is the team's 29th-straight bid to the NCAA Tournament and the 40th overall in the program's history. Indiana has an NCAA-best .732 (83-29-4) winning percentage in the tournament, while the 83 victories is also tops in the NCAA. IU has appeared in 18 College Cups, which leads all Division I teams, and won its eighth national title in 2012.

Since the NCAA began its current seeding format in 2003, the Hoosiers have earned a top-16 seed in 11 of the 13 tournaments. The last time IU was the No. 16 seed was in 2012, when Indiana won the program's eighth NCAA Championship.

The No. 22-ranked Hoosiers are coming off a hard-fought match against Maryland in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals that saw the Terrapins advance in penalty kicks. On the season, Indiana has posted a record of 12-4-3 thanks in part to a great run down the stretch that saw IU go 9-1-2 in the team's last 12 games.

The Hoosiers again had one of the toughest schedules in the country in 2015, playing six matches against five NCAA Tournament teams, having faced Maryland twice. Of the five teams, four earned national seeds – Notre Dame (No. 7), Ohio State (No. 9), Maryland (No. 10) and South Florida (No. 14).

The Big Ten had four teams earn berths to the NCAA Tournament, with Ohio State and Maryland joining IU as nationally-seeded teams. Rutgers made the tournament as an at-large squad. This season marks the eighth time in the last nine years the Big Ten has had at least four teams earn bids to the tournament.

Indiana will face the winner of UConn and Boston University, who play in Storrs, Conn. on Thursday. IU is 2-3-1 against UConn all-time and is 4-0-0 versus Boston U. Indiana hasn't played UConn since 2006 and hasn't faced Boston University since 2005.

The first round of the NCAA Tournament will be played on Thursday, while second-round games are scheduled for Sunday. The third round is slated for Nov. 28 and Nov. 29, while the quarterfinals will take place Dec. 4 and Dec. 5. ESPNU will air the 2015 NCAA Men's College Cup at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan., with semifinal games at 6 and 8:30 p.m. ET on Dec. 11 and the championship match slated for 2 p.m. on Dec. 13.

Great news that we earned a top-16 seed...which means we get a bye into the round of 32.

The downside is that if (when!) we win our first game, we're likely looking at a trip to Wake Forest to play the #1 seed in the country. But if you're going to be national champs, you have to go thru everyone at some point.

I seem to recall being a 16th seed in 2012 and having to go on the road to the #1 team in the nation in the round of 32...and that tourney turned out ok!

We have actually gone on the road several times and beaten #1 on the way to a College Cup or title. If memory serves me right: Clemson '98, UNC 2000, UCLA '03 (Jerry's last year), and 3 years ago-either ND or UNC, can't remember which was #1, but we beat both.

True...altho we didn't win the title in 2000, but we did go to NC in the elite 8 and win against a great UNC team; sadly they got their revenge the following year in the title game :(

You are spot on about 98 at Clemson (which was a joke that we were seeded 8th that season anyway) and 2003 at UCLA. If we do get to go to Wake, I like the fact that they are big favorites and we have nothing to lose. Top seeded ACC teams have a tendency to choke during the tourney.
