I guess you could make a case for that after we eliminated Maryland. Michigan just beat Rutgers, 10-4, to win the tournament. Maryland and Rutgers were pretty much considered locks for the NCAAs with Iowa considered a fringe bubble team that will now probably not make it, while Michigan wasn't even considered a bubble team and they have eliminated a bubble team elsewhere by winning the tournament. I'm pretty sure that although Michigan beat Maryland in a slugfest before we beat them, they probably didn't want to face that Terps lineup again in the tournament. Maryland was the strong favorite for the tournament title, and they took the series from Rutgers in the regular season while sweeping Michigan. Maybe we played a part in Michigan winning or maybe we didn't since we will never know. At least we know we won the series during the regular season over the tournament champs, but that still doesn't take the sting out of our disappointing season.

There is a cloud over Michigan‘s tourney win. Willie Weiss senior reliever was caught with a foreign substance just after he entered the Iowa elimination game this afternoon. It will be interesting to see what if anything the B1G does with this.

I guess I missed that, and that is interesting. It probably won't have any effect on the outcome of the tournament.

Added: out of curiosity, I checked the Iowa site out and all they said was the Michigan pitcher was ejected for the foreign substance and that was the last mention of it by them. If the pitcher has any eligibility for next season, he may be suspended at the start of next season, and I might add, ineligible for the NCAAs next week.

Michigan is probably the closest thing in the B1G to a national program at this point. I still have hopes for IU, and believe Maryland will continue to be relevant. Michigan has talent, was a preseason #2 pick, to a disappointing Nebraska, this year and one of 3 B1G teams to play a top 100 out of conference strength of schedule (OSU @41, IU @63, & Michigan @83 per warrennolan). In winning the tourney they beat the top 4;seeds. Iowa ended up run ruled making Weiss irrelevant to the outcome.

IMO this is an embarrassment to Michigan and the league. It is hard for me to believe that this just popped up in game 57 with only one player involved. I think it will follow them during their stay in the CWS playoff.

I have read that a 4 game suspension is automatic per NCAA rules. Weiss has been an important reliever for Michigan going back to their 2019 run to the CWS finals as a freshman. He struggled this year until recently. Would think Michigan would leave him home from their first weekend of the playoffs.

Yeaaahhh. I'm probably not gonna believe nobody in the Michigan dugout didn't know anything about this. Might explain his late season resurrection?

Yes, the player is suspended for four games. Here are a couple of quotes from the Michigan coach.

"We made a mistake there and we have to own it and apologize for it," in speaking with the BTN.
"It’s like when you’re a parent and your kid makes a mistake. You don’t love them any less, but you have to admit we made a mistake there and that may be a part of baseball, but that’s not part of our program."

Makes me question some things about that place.

Edit: Nevermind, I forgot about the basketball coach going Will Smith against Wisky.
