IU's hot hitting carried over from yesterday as they jumped on the Bears in the 1st scoring six runs. Mathison had a two-run homer in the 1st and a triple in the 3rd scoring on a throwing error, Ellis had a single and two RBIs, and Tibbetts, who was 4 of 5 yesterday, has a single and two RBIs. Bradley Brehmer is on the mound and has not given up a hit through 3 innings so far. IU has 8 hits on the game through 3 innings.

In the B4th, Brehmer gave up his first hit, a double to lead off. He then got a fly out for the 1st out, but then gave up a walk to put men on 1st and 2nd with one out. A force out at 2nd put men on 1st and 3rd with two outs. A single up the middle scored two runs with men on 1st and 3rd and still two outs, but a fly out got IU out of the inning with no further damage done.

Colopy walked to open IU's 5th. Tibbetts flied out, and Colopy stole 2nd, but Pyne popped up to SS for the 2nd out, and Mathison struck out looking to end IU's 5th.

Brehmer puts them down in order on all fly outs to end the Bears half of the 5th.

In IU's 6th, Jessee reached on a fielding error, MSU's third of the game, but he was thrown out trying to take 2nd. Doanes grounded out for the 2nd out. Glasser then singled putting a man on 1st with two outs. Whalen then singled putting men on 1st and 2nd, forcing MSU to go to their bullpen again bringing in a lefty to face the power hitting Ellis, a lefty. So much for the lefty vs lefty matchup as Ellis singled to left field bringing in Glasser. Colopy then flied out to end IU's 6th. IU up 10-2.

Brehmer is still on the mound for the 6th. The Bears opened their half of the 6th with a leadoff homer to make it 10-3. Brehmer then got the next three batters in order with two Ks and a ground out to end the inning. I might add that it's a much cooler day for this game compared to Friday and Saturday, with the temp at 50 right now. The forecast for rain today fizzled out although it's cloudy.

In IU's 7th, the Bears went to the bullpen for a third time and brought in a righty with an ERA of 1.50 in six innings pitched so far on the season, and IU went down in order on a ground out, K, and a fly out. Bears batting their half of the 7th, down 10-3.

IU has brought in Ryan Kraft to relieve Brehmer who pitched a good enough game giving up four hits and three earned runs over six innings. Kraft got off to a rocky start by giving up a single and then hitting a batter to put men on 1st and 2nd with no outs. A fly out advanced the man on 2nd to 3rd and they were on the corners with one out. A fielder's choice forced the man at 2nd, but a run scored to make it 10-4 with a man on 1st and two outs. Kraft then walked a batter to put men on 1st and 2nd with two outs, but got the third out on a pop up to end the 7th. I thought we might actually get through a game without a hit batter, but it was not to be. The Bears have chipped away at our lead a little, but we still have a comfortable lead, needing just six more outs to end it.

MSU is on their fourth bullpen pitcher going into the 8th.

IU opened the 8th with a K and a fly out, but Glasser singled and move to 2nd on a wild pitch. Whalen grounded out to end IU's half of the inning. Braydon Tucker replaced Kraft in the B8th. Tucker struck out the first batter, and then hit the next batter, but got a pop up and a ground out to end the 8th. Two hit batters in two straight innings, so no matter where we play, we leave some bruises behind.

The Bears have gone to the bullpen again for the 9th. The leadoff batter, Ellis, reached base after being hit, but Colopy flied out and Tibbetts hit into a DP to end IU's 9th.

In the Bears 9th, a ground out and a single put a man on with one out. A walk put men on 1st and 2nd with one out, but two fly outs ended the game.

IU took the series and was a bad 5th inning in game one from getting the sweep. IU had several players with two hits and were led by Ellis going 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, while Mathison was 2 for 4 with a homer and a triple and two RBIs.

Here is the game summary and a link to the box score. IU plays Cincinnati on Tues at The Bart, and the Bearcats are 6-4 and just took 3 of 4 from Northwestern at home this weekend.

I might add that we also play Purdue Ft. Wayne on Weds at The Bart.
