RHP Jack Perkins is on the mound for IU with an ERA of 4.75 in 72 IP and an OBA of .217, while RHP Dylan Nedved is on the mound for Iowa with an ERA of 3.90 in 57.2 IP and an OBA of .198.

In games that are in progress as I post this Purdue trails MD 7-5 in the 6th. Ill and PSU are tied at 1-1 in the 4th, while Neb and MSU are just getting started was well as NU and Minn.

In IU's 1st, Whalen strikes out to lead off. Jessee walks on four pitches to put a runner on and one out. Pyne strikes out looking for two outs. Mathison flies out to end IU's 1st.

In Iowa's 1st, the leadoff hitter reached on an infield hit after the ball took a weird bounce that Glasser couldn't field quick enough to get the runner. Here we go again as the next batter gets a single to put runners on the corners and no outs. IU gets a DP but the runner on 3rd scores. A two-out double puts a runner in scoring position with two outs. Perkins then walks a man to put runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs. Perkins gets out of the inning with a K looking. Tucker had a shaky 1st yesterday and settled down, so hopefully Perkins can do the same since we need him to go deep into the game today.

In IU's 2nd, with a wind blowing in today vs out yesterday, Tibbetts sends a ball to the warning track, but it was a long out. Glasser then walks, but Ellis strikes out swinging for two outs and Glasser in 1st. A ground out ends the 2nd for IU.

In Iowa's 2nd, they are at the bottom of the order. Perkins gets the leadoff hitter on a ground out for the first out. Perkins gets the next man on a K swinging for two outs and we are at the guy that hit the three homers yesterday and a B1G record of 12 RBIs in the 9th spot. Perkins gets him on a ground out to end the inning and it's IU's first 1-2-3 inning since the series began.

In games in progress, the Terps are starting to run away from the Boilers and are up 11-5 in the 7th. The Illini lead PSU 2-1 in the 5th, and there are no score yet in Neb/MSU and Minn/NW.

In the 3rd, Murrison leads off with a K on three pitches and we are at the top of the order in Whalen. Whalen walks to put a runner on and one out. Jessee then walks to put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. IU has yet to get a hit, but they have had four walks already. Pyne reaches on a fielder's choice with Jessee forced at 2nd and runners on the corners with two outs. Mathison grounds out to the pitcher to end IU's 3rd.

In the B3rd, it's the top of the order up for Iowa. Perkins gets the leadoff batter on a flyout. He then gets a K for the 2nd out. Perkins gets a ground out to end the inning and Perkins has back-to-back 1-2-3 innings.

Md leads Purdue, 12-5 in the 8th. Illini 3 PSU 2 in 7th. MSU leads Neb 1-0 in the 2nd and NW 2 Minn 0 in the 1st.

In the 4th, IU is looking for their first hit and we are at the No. 5 thru 7 hitters. Tibbetts grounds out for the first out. Glasser flies out for two outs. Ellis ends IU's 4th with a flyout.

In Iowa's 4th, they are at the 4 thru 6 spots in the order. Perkins is at a PC of 46 entering this inning. Perkins walks the leadoff man. A single puts them on the corners with no outs. Perkins then hits a batter to load the bases with no outs. Perkins gets the first out on a flyout but the runner scores from 3rd to make it 2-0 with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out. A double scores two more runs to make it 4-0 with the walk and hit batter being in those runners that scored. Perkins hits a batter as the batter was swinging so it went as a K with two outs and a runner at 2nd. A single scores another run to make it 5-0 with two outs and the runner takes 2nd on the throw. Perkins ends the inning with a K.

In the T5th, IU is still looking for the first hit and Doanes and Murrison both ground out for two outs and we are at the top of the order again with Whalen up and he strikes out looking as the Iowa pitcher has a no-hitter through five innings.

In the B5th, Iowa is at the 3 thru 5 hitters. Their leadoff man homered to make it 6-0. Perkins gets a K for the first out. A throwing error by Pyne sends a runner to 2nd with one out. A month ago IU led the B1G with the fewest errors with 30, but since then we have committed errors in just about every game and it's somewhere around 55 with the two today and we are sinking fast in our fielding ranking in the B1G. We have six errors in the first two games of this series. A ground out sends the runner to 3rd with two outs. A walk puts runners on the corners with two outs. A double scores another run to make it 7-0 with runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs. Perkins then hits a batter, IU's 105th hit batter on the season, to load the bases with two outs. Two more runs score on a single that probably should have been a throwing error and Mercer goes to the bullpen with runners on the corners and two outs with the score now 9-0. LHP Ryan Kraft has an ERA of 10.00 in 36 IP. We are just halfway through this game and IU is getting IMO embarrassed for a 2nd straight game, with our pitching, hitting, and fielding being poor to say the least so far. To put the icing on this inning, Kraft enters the game and immediately throws a WP which moves the runner to 2nd, but he gets a K to finally end an atrocious inning. Iowa has 9 runs on 9 hits.

In the T6th, Jessee strikes out for the first out. It took going into the 6th for IU to get it's first hit when Pyne singled. Mathison then hits into a fielder's choice with Pyne out at 2nd for two outs. Tibbetts grounds out to end IU's 6th.

In the B6th, Kraft gets a K for the first out. Kraft then walks the cleanup hitter. A WP sends the runner to 2nd. A ground out sends the runner to 3rd with two outs. Kraft then gets a K to end the inning.

In the T7th, Iowa goes to the bullpen to bring in LHP Jared Simpson with an ERA of 2.77 in 13 IP. IU is at their 6 thru 8 hitters. Glasser and Ellis grounds out for the first two outs. Doanes gets IU's 2nd hit of the game with a single and two outs. Murrison strikes out to end their 7th.

Kraft is back on the mound in the 7th and he is facing the bottom of the order for Iowa. A walk puts a runner on and no outs. Two back-to-back singles load the bases with no outs. Another single scores two more runs to make it 11-0 with runners on the corners with no outs and IU might as well save what bullpen pitchers they have not used for tomorrow and leave Kraft out there to finish it no matter what. A flyout results in the first out with the runner holding at 3rd and one out. Kraft gets a K for out No. 2 with runners still on the corners. A flyout ends the inning.

In the 8th, we are at the top of the order in Whalen and he flies out for the first out. Jessee fouls out to the catcher for out No. 2. Pyne gets a double for hit No.3 with two outs and Pyne may have hurt his hamstring, which would be a bummer considering this game is lost. Goforth pinch runs for Pyne. A WP moves the runner to 3rd with two outs. Mathison walks to put runners on the corners with two outs. Tibbetts strikes out to end IU's 8th.

In Iowa's 8th, Kraft gets the leadoff man on a K. He then gives up a homer to make it 12-0. A single puts a runner on with one out. Kraft gets another K for the 2nd out and a runner still on 1st. Kraft gets another K to end the inning.

I have run all the scenario's myself and unless I am completely off, IU makes the Big Ten Tournament unless Iowa, MSU, NW, and PU all win tomorrow.

Anything short of that and IU punches ticket to Omaha.

If I'm not mistaken, if MSU loses tonight to Neb they are eliminated.

In the 9th, IU has the 6 thru 8 hitters up to try to avoid the shutout. Iowa went to their bullpen again but I'm not going to bother to give his stats since it doesn't matter at this point. Glasser grounds out and Ellis strikes out for two outs. It was fitting that Doanes would end this game with a K.

Yes MSU is eliminated and already loss tonight but by beating Nebraska tomorrow they can eliminate IU potentially.

This is because a Purdue win would make them 7th and IU would be in a two-way tie with Northwestern for 8th which they lose if MSU wins tomorrow and NW wins. Any three way tie IU wins and any two way tie with Nebraska IU wins.

Every Hoosier fan needs to be Terps, Gophers and Husker fans tomorrow. If any of those teams win IU is in regardless. If all of those three lose, IU will need to beat Iowa tomorrow night to clinch.

Yes, I see what you are saying. I have faith that the Terps will sweep the Boilers, but it is pathetic that we are reduced to hoping certain teams lose when all we have to do is win one game against Iowa.

They still have a chance to beat Iowa once. They just won't need to if any of those other three games break the right way.

IU is reduced to having to try and salvage the last game of this series to reach the tournament or hope for help, and because it's a late game, we will probably have a pretty good idea whether we need to win that game or not since other games will either be over or close to it by the time our game starts. For the record, in B1G series this season with IU not having a third established pitcher in the weekend rotation, IU is 2-5 in the third game of the series played. We play a late game tomorrow night at 9 p.m. (ET) in a game on ESPNU. Iowa is not only trying to improve their seeding, but they are also trying to get into the NCAAs and they want this sweep badly. Pyne appeared to hurt his hamstring late in the game tonight, so we don't know if he will be available tomorrow.

We were outhit 14 to 3 tonight and we stunk in all three phases of the game in hitting, pitching and fielding. Pyne was the only player with multiple hits going 2 for 4 with a double and that was it except for a single by Doanes. We needed Perkins to go deep in this game and he only lasted 4.2 IP in a poor outing, We used just Perkins and Kraft and here are their numbers.

Perkins in 4.2 IP gave up 9 hits to include 3 doubles and a homer for 6 ERs and 9 runs scored. He had 6 Ks, 3 BBs, and 2 hit batters.
Kraft went 3.1 IP and gave up 5 hits to include a homer for 3 ERs He had 7 Ks for a season high, 2 BBs, and 2 WPs.

We were charged with 3 more errors and have 7 errors in the two games of the series so far.

I hate back door invites only to get bombed and embarrassed in game one. Sometimes it’s better just to end things quietly.
