RHP Ethan Phillips is on the mound for IU with an ERA of 5.47 in 26.1 IP and a WHIP of 1.71 with an OBA of .248. TJ Schuyler is behind the plate with Stadler being the DH.

For BSU, RHP Jacob Hartlaub is on the mound with an ERA of 4.82 in 28.0 IP and a WHIP of 1.68 with an OBA of .293.

It's 51 and cloudy with very little chance of rain with the wind N at 10 mph.

1st inning:

T1st:

Mathison Kd to open the game. Pyne grounded out for the 2nd out. Taylor flied out as IU went down in order.

B1st:

Phillips got the leadoff hitter on a grounder. The next batter doubled to put a man in scoring position. A groundout was the 2nd out with the runner moving to 3rd.

A single scored the runner from 3rd with two outs.

Another double scored a run to make it 2-0 with two outs. Another double scored a run to make it 3-0.

Phillips had given up three doubles in the first with all three runs coming after two outs.

A grounder ended a forgettable inning for IU.

End of 1st: BSU 3 IU 0

2nd inning:

T2nd:

It was the middle of the order up and Cerny flied out to lead off. Mitchell was hit by a pitch to put a runner on with one out.

Brenczewski popped up to LF for the 2nd out. Stadler flied out to retire the side.

B2nd:

LHP Brandon Keyster replaced Phillips with an ERA of 5.40 in 11.2 IP, and he faced the 8 thru 1 hitters.

Keyster got back-to-back Ks for two outs and it was the top of the order up. A groundout ended the inning as Keyster put them down in order.

3rd inning:

T3rd:

Oliver doubled off the right center wall for IU's first hit of the game. Schuyler grounded out with Oliver holding at 2nd.

Mathison Kd again for the 2nd out, and he had opened the game with two Ks. Pyne grounded out and Oliver was stranded at 2nd after the leadoff double.

B3rd:

RHP Jack Moffitt replaced Keyster with an ERA of 7.91 in 19.1 IP. Moffitt gave up a double to the leadoff hitter and the Cards already had four doubles on the game.

A popup to shallow left kept the runner at 2nd with one out.

Moffitt then walked the next batter on a full count to put runners at 1st and 2nd and one out.

Moffitt got a K for the 2nd out. A base hit scored a run and a good throw to the plate would have gotten the runner, but it was off giving Schuyler no chance to apply the tag.

A K ended the inning.

End of 3rd: BSU 4 IU 0

You're truly a masochist, aren't you? lol

Do we know anything about Tibbits? And did Foley not pitch at all last weekend?
I haven't heard anything about Tibbitts and Foley had back tightness and he sat out last weekend at Minnesota and they believe he will be back for Rutgers this weekend.

4th inning:

T4th:

It was the 3 thru 5 hitters up for IU with Taylor leading off. Taylor got a leadoff walk on a full count.

A flyout by Cerny moved Taylor to 2nd and one out. Mitchell flied out with Taylor holding at 2nd and two outs.
Brenczewski singled to score Taylor with a runner on 1st and two outs. Stadler flied out to retire the side.

B4th:

RHP Seth Benes replaced Moffitt and he had an ERA of 11.24 in 4.0 IP, and he faced the 8 thru 1 hitters.

An error by Oliver on a grounder put the leadoff hitter on.

On a ball that could have been an easy DP, Cerny bobbled the ball and got the runner at 2nd, but the throw to 1st was way off and it allowed the runner at 1st to reach 3rd with one out, and it was Keystone Cops time for IU in the inning with two errors so far.

Benes got back-to-back Ks to end the inning and the two errors fortunately didn't cost IU on the scoreboard.

End of 4th: BSU 4 IU 1

A single scored a run and runners were on the corners with one out. A bunt attempt to Kraft got the runner at the plate for the 2nd out. There were runners at 1st and 2nd and two outs.

It was the 2 thru 4 hitters up with Pyne leading off. Pyne got a leadoff double, his 200th hit as a Hoosier. It was just IU's 3rd hit of the game.

Taylor Kd and Cerny grounded out with Pyne taking 3rd and two outs.

Mitchell flied out to retire the side with Pyne stranded at 3rd, and IU was hitting a lot of fly balls that were getting caught in the wind that was blowing in and resulting in easy outs.

B6th:

RHP Julian Tonghini replaced Kraft with an ERA of 5.85 in 20.0 IP, and he faced the 9 thru 2 hitters.

A hard-hit ball hit off Tonghini's leg and he was hobbling around with the runner reaching on an infield hit. Tonghini was able to shake it off and stayed in the game.

It was the top of the order up with a runner at 1st and no outs.

A hard hit fly was caught in the wind for the 1st out and the runner still at 1st.

The runner stole 2nd with one out. Tonghini got back-to-back Ks to end the inning.

Honestly, I don’t even know why I keep coming here to see what is happening. Same MO every game. Lose a midweek game to a mid-major.

It was the top of the order up with Mathison at the plate and he had Kd three straight times in the game.

Ball State made another pitching change and they are treating this game like it's a weekend game and want it badly. They brought in RHP Sam Klein with an ERA of 6.00 in 30.0 IP.

All of the pitchers used in this game by Ball State have pitched a lot of innings for midweek pitchers with the four pitchers used pitching 30.2, 28, 28,2, and 30.1 innings in that order.

Mathison walked on a 3-1 count to load the bases with two outs and Pyne up. Pyne grounded out and IU came up empty.

B7th:

RHP Evan Whitaker with an ERA of 13.50 in 10.0 IP, and he faced the middle of the order.

Oliver committed his 2nd error of the game and IU's 3rd, on an easy grounder that he didn't handle and the leadoff hitter reached.

The runner stole 2nd and then a double scored another run with no outs. The run was unearned.

Stadler doubled to tie the game at 7-7 and two outs. Wiggins came in to pinch run for Stadler.

Ball State went to the bullpen again and brought in RHP Owen Quinn with an ERA of 8.36 in 14.0 IP, and he faced Oliver.

Oliver was intentionally walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd, and after facing just that one batter, Ball State moved their first baseman in Blake Bevis to the mound and his ERA at 13.50 in 2.0 IP. He faced Schuyler.

The runners took 2nd and 3rd. Schuyler went down on a K looking to retire the side.

It was the 4 thru 6 hitters up with Cerny leading off. Cerny hit a little dribbler down the 3B line and Ball State let it go hoping it would go foul and it stayed fair to put Cerny on with an infield hit.

Mitchell popped out for the 1st out with Cerny still at 1st.

Brenczewski Kd with Cerny stealing 2nd and two outs. Bode pinch hitted for Wiggins. Bode walked on four pitches to put runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs.

IU brought in LHP Ryan Rushing with an ERA of 10.80 in 10.0 IP and he faced the 3rd thru 5 hitters.

12th inning:

T12th:

It was the 9 thru 2 hitters up with Schuyler leading off. There are no lights at the Ball St park so that could come into play if this game continues.

Schulyer Kd with the top of the order up with Mathison at the plate. Mathison struck out for the 5th time today and two outs.

Pyne walked on a full count with two outs and Taylor up. Taylor singled to put runners at the corners with two outs and Cerny up.

Cerny Kd to retire the side.

B12th:

Rushing was back out there again, and we were at the 8 thru 1 hitters up.

Rushing hit back-to-back batters to put two on with no outs and IU brought in RHP Eli Shaw with an ERA of 10.13 in 8.0 IP. IU had put the leadoff batter on in each of the extra innings played so they had been playing with fire in each inning.

On a bunt, the charging Pyne at 3rd tossed to Cerny covering 3rd to get the lead runner and one out with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out.

A flyout got the 2nd out with the runner taking 3rd and two outs with the runner at 1st having no bearing of the game in a walk off situation.

A pop out at 3B end the inning and the game was called because of darkness in a park that had no lights.

Final: IU 7 BSU 7

What a sorry game by IU and it was another game where the bats didn't come alive until the latter part of the game which is something that has happened a lot this season. It was a game where IU was fortunate to not have another midweek loss to a team that didn't have a great RPI and was a Q3 team.

IU put the leadoff hitter on in all three of the extra innings but managed to find a way to strand the runners on the bases. Both teams combined to use 20 pitchers in the game with IU intentionally going through a lot of pitchers, using 11 pitchers with everyone pitching one complete inning except for two innings pitched by Decker-Petty.

IU added three more errors to the season total, to one error on the Cards. The first two errors by IU didn't impact the scoring, but the last error ended up giving the Cards an unearned run.

I'm not going to bother to break down the rest of this game which had just about a little bit of everything going on in the 12 innings. Here's the box score link:
