Hall of Famer
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University midfielder Tanner Thompson was taken with the first selection (67th overall) in the fourth round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft by Minnesota United FC on Tuesday afternoon.

Thompson becomes the 45th Indiana player selected in the MLS Draft since the league's inception in 1996. IU's last draft selections came last year when Femi Hollinger-Janzen was taken with the 10th pick in the third round by the New England Revolution.

Thompson will join Hollinger-Janzen on Minnesota United FC, as Hollinger-Janzen was selected by MNUFC in the MLS Expansion Draft in December.

Thompson recently completed his four-year, standout career with the Hoosiers. A three-time All-America selection, Thompson is only the eighth player in Indiana men's soccer history to earn at least three All-America accolades and is the first since Pat Noonan earned his third All-America certificate in 2002. The Loomis, Calif. native earned first-team honors in 2014 and was a third-team honoree by the NSCAA in 2015.

A three-time First-Team All-Region selection, Thompson repeated as Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors for the third-straight season. Thompson had a tremendous year for the Hoosiers, as the senior led the team with 18 points on the strength of eight goals and two assists. Thompson was also clutch for IU, netting four game winners.

For his career, Thompson started 65 of the 83 matches he played in for the Hoosiers. He totaled 55 career points on the strength of 18 goals and 19 assists. Thompson also netted nine game-winning goals for IU.
