I can't imagine why else Curbelo would be transferring. Curbelo is good, maybe not NBA good, but definitely a D1 starter for most P5 teams, weird to think he needs to transfer is that's not why. Anybody know anything?

I guess the question is where would Curbelo be planning to go and why. There's not a ton of teams outside the B10 (and that be mostly us since there was some history with him) and a better option than his current status. I doubt he'd be willing to give up a starting role unless maybe there's friction with Underwood

The rumor in Champaigne is that Curbelo had a heated exchange with coaches at halftime of their loss to Houston. He was benched with six minutes left in the first half and never returned to the game.

Every time I watch an Illinois game, the announcers always rave about Curbelo's skills. I just don't see it. In my eyes, he is a turnover machine who cannot shoot the ball....Illinois version of Khristian Lander (but Curbelo can defend better). Just another overrated high school recruit (this opinion may not age well).

He made one of the sweetest bounce passes in the lane going full speed, in our BTT game with them. He also had some other good things he did. Trust me, he’s way better than Lander and that’ll be reflected in the respective programs where they land. Lander will go to a mid-major and Curbelo will have several P5 programs interested.

ok so there IS perhaps more to the story...it sure seemed like something weird happened with Curbelo during the IL/Hou game. I was watching the 2nd half and watching ILL's offense continue to sputter and shoot bricks, and when it became clear (5 min mark and to close) that ILL was done for the year, it just hit me..."Hey, what the hell happened to Curbelo?" I didn't remember ever seeing him come back in the game...a game in which the rest of the ILL guards weren't exactly tearing it up. Then I saw him sitting on the bench with a few min left, big sour puss and looked like he was just counting down the minutes. Thought maybe I was reading too much into the situation. Now...maybe not.

He's all style points...but in the end...another point guard that cannot shoot from outside.

I can't remember where I read it but it had stats that Illini were 1-6 when he played 20 or more minutes, not sure they will miss him honestly

The kid is talented and quick. I think he has a lot of maturing to do. His body language, smirks and one upping the referees did him no favors.

“one upping the referees”

Maybe the same holds true for “one upping the coaching staff”…. If the Champaign Rumors mentioned earlier have any truth to them.

Interesting comparison.........I agree he is way overrated and his issues (TOs, inability to finish) are similar, but KL would be bad Curbelo on steroids. On the other hand, there were certainly no issues with KL's attitude/interactions with coaches.
