…to build a football program that is fun to watch on anything other than solid offensive line play?
The CKW years had a lot of flaws, but there was always hope with those lines and running backs, even with dodgy QB play and terrible defense. The Zander/Tevin game at OSU comes to mind. Same with the Hep years and the latter part of Cam Cameron and of course Bill Mallory. If you can’t keep your offense on the field and defense off the field, it makes every other position group on both O and D worse. I feel like I’m in the late Bill Lynch/early Kevin Wilson years of hopelessness, or maybe that Dinardo year when there were only 38 scholarship
Looking back at the hiring of CTA, it seems to have been an overcorrection after a couple of decades of terrible defense: spend your limited resources on defense and overspend on strength and conditioning. That was fine until the last of the CKW O-linemen were gone. It also works in basketball (see CMW, RMK), but isn’t working out in football.
Are there any fun to watch teams that have mediocre O-line play in FBS?
