Coach Wilson's radio show is starting now and I will be posting updates from the show.

WR Ricky Jones and DL Adarius Rayner are the player guests tonight.

Don Fischer asks Rayner about what it's been like to be at IU. Rayner said it has been growing experience and he said Coach Wilson and his staff have taught him and his teammates what it takes to be men.

Fischer asks him about playing DT and not getting much recognition. He said he likes playing DT because it is the anchor of the defense and he feels it is an important spot.

Fischer asks Jones about his game on Saturday and Jones said it felt unreal after missing so much time with injuries.

Jones said he was originally slotted to play slot WR and he came in behind Shane Wynn and was his back-up early on.

Jones said that he and the other receivers did not play with enough confidence last year and he thought they let the team down.

Fischer asks Jones about the 71-yard reception and he said they ran the same play on the play before. He said he wasn't sure if he would be able to run 80 yards two plays in a row but he was able to do it.

Rayner said at halftime they focused on communication after the first half against SIU. He also thought some of the players were nervous and needed to settle down.

Fischer asks both guys about FIU since both are from the state of Florida. Jones said FIU is pretty good and they have a lot of Florida speed. Rayner said he just wants to win and he feels the team will be ready.

Rayner is majoring in African American studies and communications. He said that he wants to go into coaching. Jones is a liberal arts major and he hopes to play in the NFL.

Jones said the biggest character on the team is Coach Wilson. He said he is a very funny guy. He said the only problem is you are not sure whether to laugh or not when he says something funny. As far as players he said Rayner, Greg Gooch and Tegray Scales are funny guys.

That is it for the players. Coach Wilson is up next.

Special guest for tonight's show is Amelia Anderson from the IU volleyball team.

Wilson said the team put themselves into tough spots against SIU. He said they had kicking issues and they had guys that need to play better. He said that he has noticed his team sometimes gets too passive and he thinks that needs to change.

Wilson said that Nate Sudfeld told him that he couldn't believe how the defense played after facing them in fall camp.

Wilson said the defense struggled early and they scored early and then had a penalty on offense on a critical 3rd down and that hurt the defense because they had to give the ball back.

Wilson said there are a lot of positives to build on and a lot of things to work on and he thinks they have a lot of correctable things they can fix.

Wilson said that Jordan Fuchs should be back after being banged up.

Wilson said he was not happy with the blocked punt and he thinks their formation needs to be tweaked because it can put too much stress on some of their blockers. He said the 2-point conversion they gave up was disappointing. He said the return game was okay.

Wilson said FIU had a nice win. He said their defense is stubborn and salty and they will make you throw the ball and they have good one-on-one defenders. They are good against the run. He said their defense is as good as any they will face other than the high end Big Ten teams. He said their offense is sound under Ron Turner. He said FIU has done a good job of developing players and they have a bunch of good athletes.

Twitter question asks what has been the main focus on improving the defense this week. Wilson said when the defense knew what they were doing the players were doing okay. He said they have simplified some things. They are trying to be as sound as possible. He said you can't be perfectly sound in today's day and age so you try to be as sound as possible. He said sometimes to do that you have to eliminate some things to reduce clutter. He said they have to transfer it into the game.

Wilson said it is important to stretch a defense east and west because they tires out the defenders. He said that is what SIU was doing early to soften up the IU defense to go north and south later in the game.

Question about Zander Diamont switching to WR. he said they have enough receivers. Wilson said they need to get Diamont on the field because they think he can do some things. They planned to play him last week but it didn't work out.

Wilson is asked about team speed and he said they are significantly faster. He said they might not have a home run threat but he likes what Howard and Redding can do at RB.

Wilson is asked about getting the defense ready for Big Ten season and he said they are doing that now by doing things in practice to prepare them. He said they are used to practicing against a 3-4 defense and this week they are playing a 4-3 defense.

Wilson asked about other O-lineman getting playing time. Wilson said Wes Martin did well and so did Dimitric Camiel. Wilson said because of the way the game played out they didn't feel comfortable subbing in on the O-line.

Fischer asks about Nate Sudfeld about being a leadership. Wilson said Nate was leading by being demanding and telling the coaches what he wanted. Wilson said Nate was also very assertive on the sidelines with the receivers. Wilson said that every play Nate has to beat the DE and he has about 3 seconds.

Wilson asks how it feels to be the second best looking man in Bloomington. Wilson said that is from his daughter's boyfriend. He said next time he needs to ask a football question.

Wilson said Howard had a very solid first game but he is not a rookie. He said Redding had a nice game. He said Brookins had a bit of a gimpy ankle but he thinks he will get more time on special teams.

Wilson said the key for Mitchell Paige on punt returns is to field the ball and make sure they keep the ball and don't give it back.

Fischer asks about the freshman DBs and Wilson said Jonathan Crawford is going to be really good. He said he just has a knack for making plays. He said Andre Brown is also going to be good and they had Jameel Cook out there at a critical time.

Wilson said they don't plan on changing what they do defensively but he said they are changing some things to get the players to have more urgency at lining up and being more aggressive. He thinks the mindset has not been there on the defensive side since he's been there like it has been on offense.

Wilson said the school needs to be represented by a team that goes after it all the time and that is what he wants from his defense.

Fischer asks about FIU players and Wilson said they have a DE that is really good. He said they move their TE around to get him a mis-match. He said the QB is a veteran guy and he said #55 on defense is tremendous and their field corner is also very good.

That is it for this week.
