An unsolicited outsider's perspective: Indiana is committed to basketball. Facilities, coach's salaries and budgets for recruiting, staff etc. all point to the administration being committed to getting it right.

All three of the last coaches hired were viewed as good choices by many (although I, like many, cringed at Sampson).

Up north we understand how penny pinching can hamper a successful coach (Tiller), almost run off an young successful coach (Painter) or lead to subpar hires Haze with awful assistants. It took a new president and upgrade in AD to get it right and start making the commitment to both programs For football, the results just need to follow; and like CAM and "The Tan One" they just might not.

The good news for IU fans is that the money flow indicates the commitment is still there.

However, we need look no farther than Mich to understand that hiring coaches is a crapshoot. All the money, facilities and reputation does not seem to impact whether a coach is successful when the step up or just switch jobs.
