In case you missed it, Roger Bannister died

Damn. That's sad. I just walked in the door from my own run a few minutes ago.

It's a shame people don't seem to know the earlier runners and what they contributed to training concepts for runners. Bannister certainly is one of the past runners who contributed immensely to advancement of running in his day.

If you're interested in other important runners from the old days who are not as well known as guys like Owens, Thorpe or Pheidipedes, see what the interweb might tell you about Paavo Nurmi, Emil Zatopek and Glenn Cunningham, just three which popped into my mind.

It looks like he had a good life. Bless his family. The interesting thing is I am bringing him up in my sermon this evening. My text is out of Hebrews 12:2 and I am mentioning Bannister because of verse one. The great cloud of witnesses are those believers who came before. Their success spurs us onto success because if they could do it, then we can too. Bannister is a great illustration of this because the sub 4 min mile was thought of as impossible.....that is until Bannister did it.

Oh, and David Ogden Stiers died, too.
